Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 7, 2005 Almost no aroma - boo. Unusual flavor but a good beer, like all Rogue beers. Smooth buttery flavor at first followed by a slight bite. Tingly to the tongue biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Mar 7, 2005 Amber and cloudy with no head. Fruity, caramel, slightly spicy and honey aroma. Smooth and fruity with some chewey nutty flavors. Spicy finish. Easy to drink. xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA Mar 6, 2005 At the Rogue Portland Brew House, this one poured from a Buckwheat Ale tap but they said it was Morimoto Soba Ale. Poured dark orange with a lasting head. Aroma was sweet and hoppy as well. Taste was very good to me. A mixture of malty sweetness and a strange bisquit spiciness. Carbination dominated the mouthfeel. I really enjoed this Rogue brew. MarkBrown (8), Iowa City, Iowa, USA does not count Mar 2, 2005 The soba imparts a very interesting soy/root beer aroma and a noticable change in taste from an otherwise pale ale. yeasty, not very well balanced. Still tasty. needs something to balance out soba. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Feb 24, 2005 22 oz. bottle. The label on mine says Morimoto Soba Ale. Pour is a light orange with medium-sized off-white head. Plenty of effervescence. Aroma is of straw, grassy hops and some sweet malts. Taste is a combination of butter and subdued spices. Sounds nasty but it’s alright. Crisp and dry. Bready. Thin. Nothing I’d look for again. My bottle says this contains Soba. Is that another word for buckwheat? (I just checked. It is.) Buckwheat cakes suck and so does anyone who eats them! donrajin (233), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, USA Feb 24, 2005 This was a very interesting ale. Different yet fimiliar. Nice amber color with decent white head. Plenty of carbonation. Flavor is hard to explain. Malty, but not like regular malty. Overall great beer. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA Feb 18, 2005 Pours amber with a medium white head. Nice straw aroma. Flavor is a bit buttery and something new here which I am not familiar with; very good though. Nice smooth bitterness quickly and cleanly subsides, quite refreshing. green (187), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Feb 14, 2005 Cloudy orange in an English pint. Fizzy thin head. Strongly aromatic aroma with champagne followed by pronounced honeysuckle and butterscotch. Lots of flavors but they are unique enough that they are hard place. Rather sweet and highly carbonated. Finishes with floral lemongrass. Only trace bitterness. A bit cloying and pop-like. Interesting, but overall effect is reminiscent of an overly heavy wheat beer.
