80skid (64), New York, USA Feb 13, 2005 Pours a light, cloudy amber color with a small, dissipating head. Taste is light and fruity but very refreshing. Goes down extremely easy with a honey, malty aftertaste. Note: This is a rating for Morimoto Soba Rogue Signature Ale and a search directed me to this beer as a secondary alias. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Feb 6, 2005 Bottle pours golden, very slight haze, medium foamy white head, spotty lacing, with soft carbonation. Subtle aroma of musty grains, with some light spices and unripened wild berries. Somewhat herbish as well. Some soft citrus peel flavor up front that is immediately followed by a sharp unripened wild berry & malt background. The wild berry almost seems like Juniper. Medium body & mouthfeel. Finishes with a slight butter note, unripened wild berries, and a soft malt background. Interesting...
whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2005 Deep golden body with abundant carbonation and a loose, cottony white head. Interesting fresh and rich nutty, buttery nose. Smells like pancake batter with some toasted malt. Flavor has fresh, homegrown qualities to it. Medium sweetness complements the rich graininess. Medium body. A refreshing and pleasant beer that makes good use of a rare adjunct. GuilTTy (527), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Jan 28, 2005 Slightly hazy pale straw appearance with a small white head. Aroma of reeds and and a salty seashore - very unique. Flavor was equally unique with a mildly sour backbone. I didn’t get any nutty flavors as claimed by the brewer and it isn’t even a little bit bitter. Fairly clean finish and surprisingly refreshing. Overall, this is an odd beer which has some positive traits but it’s not one of Rogue’s best. punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA Jan 22, 2005 Hmmm...not worth the dough I paid for it. Aroma is very faint--no head--looks like dark urine. Tastes somewhat bitter--very hoppy with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Given, it’s not a bad beer, but then, not one I’d drink often. jollyraider (252), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 17, 2005 Really interesting flavor difference; suble but very nice. Indeed very crisp and drinkable. Great for a break from really hoppy ales, it has a very light citrus hop profile. Underrated. igel (196), New Mexico, USA Jan 10, 2005 Morimoto model in a 22oz bomber.
Honey colored and hazy with lots of co2 and a full off-white head. Aroma is of hops and malt with a strong metallic presence: one-dimensional. Flavor is citrusy; light and dry with a crisp hop finish and tartness. Palate is crisp and effervescent with a lingering metallic taste that is almost unwelcome. Refreshing and easy to drink, but not very well balanced. Might do better on a summer day. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 6, 2005 Almost looks like an IPA. Clear orange body with a creamy white head. Nothing heavy in the aroma. Clean flavor with something different I can only guess is the buckwheat. I really enjoyed this. A very nice session beer.
