BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 a- pours a very cloudy dark orange with a small, white, creamy head and light lacing
s- aroma is a very strong maltiness and buckwheat/grain tones
t- unique taste that is characterized by an earthy/mulchy maltiness, some slight nut tones which may be overlapping with the buckwheat flavor
m- medium-bodied ale that is slightly overly carbonated, a bit watery
d- low abv and medium-bodied and taste characteristics make this a solid "good" ale choice that is easy drinking, this is a unique ale in that it is brewed primarily with soba, but lacks any particular "wow" factor regarding smell and taste GardenGabe (125), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 Light yello, obviously a light beer. Crystal clear with a creamly light tan head. Little nose, slight yeast. Extreamly interesting flavor, the soba really come though for the first half of the beer. The plalate is fine, though it is a lighter than i generally care for. I greq a little tired of it before the glass was empty but I would still say it is a decent light bee and would be good after moving the lawn. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a thin pale head with some lacing, over a golden yellow slightly cloudy body.....nose of yeast....taste is more complex with buckwheat flavor on the finish.....dry and crisp....light mouthfeel, nice carbonation. A pleasant light beer...good for summer. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 5, 2009 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of biscuit, toasting, light citrus hops, slight grapefruit, and a slight sweetness. Poured gold in color with a large, dense, white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Hazy. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of buckwheat, toasted malts, light citrus hops, water, slight honeysuckle, and some grains. Light to medium body. Creamy, then dry texture. Lightly sweet, buckwheat and citrus hop finish. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jan 21, 2009 This beer poured a light copper color with a nice white head that did not last too long. The aroma was of wheat, yeast, and spice. The flavor was a bit strange to me as it tasted like noodles. The mouthfeel was okay. This was okay, but definitely not something I would seek out.
CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Jan 18, 2009 Pours a hazy blonde with a nice head with moderate lace. Arp,a smells of roasted malt the way a much darker beer would! There is some yeasty baguette bread like aromas. The flavor is mildly citrusy and spicy. It has a grainy flavor that I have come to appriciate in great german lagers, which is once again oddly out of place, but very nice none the less. There is a faint hoppiness. Everything here is pretty well balanced but not terribly exciting. nathan30533 (138), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Jan 18, 2009 Pours a golden color with a lite white colored forming head. Very light and refreshing describes this one well. I would call this one more of a summer brew. Great taste of yeast. Good brew, not great. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Jan 15, 2009 Moderately sweet malt aroma. Hazy light orange color with a small white head. Lightly sharp sweet beginning with a light finish and mild piny flavor. Palate gets weaker in the end.
