Interesting fresh and rich nutty, buttery nose. Smells like pancake batter with some toasted malt. Flavor has fresh, homegrown qualities to it. Medium sweetness complements the rich graininess. Medium body. A refreshing and pleasant beer that makes good use of a rare adjunct. BDR (2170), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2003 I knew Rogue was a conjurer of cheap tricks, but, alas, I fell for their game and excitedly picked up a bottle of "Morimoto Soba Signature Ale," only to find I had a bottle of their damned buckwheat product. Oh well, the buckwheat sounded interesting too. Poured a fairly clear burnt orange, with a creamy kolsch-like white head that dissipated to a ring of bubbles around the glass edges. Some toast and a floral accent on the nose. Flavor is likewise a bit toasty, a bit biscuity, with plenty of hops bitterness. Leaves a tingle on the tongue. Ahh, I detect that "Rogue" flavor I find in most of their beers, but have a hard time pinpointing. Must be their yeast. I detect apples too- perhaps apple butter? Creamy. A nice offering. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2005 Spicy aroma almost sharp smelling. Pear juice colored with a bit of tea mixed in for a golden brown color. Tiny lifeless head. First beer in a while, but this tastes pretty good. Not much too it. Good base malt with a nice infusion of hop toward the end and some cereal grains int he middle. Still decent enough and nothing off putting about it. zach8270 (2152), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 9, 2006 (bottle - 22 oz) Light amber in color with not much carbonation or a head. Aroma is slightly dry and stale with hints of sweet malts, hops, and some grass. Flavor begins with a nice and semi-sweet malt and hop taste (very well balanced), then went quickly to a bitter and grainy middle with a very nice and bitter hop finish. Bitterness lingers on the palate for quite a while and has a little bit of citrus in there too. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 29, 2005 bottle. foggy copper-orange body with a light, small white head. ryeish aroma, some sweet maltiness, and a generally low hop profile. I guess maybe this is what buckwheat is supposed to smell like...light body, perfectly quaffable. moderate spritzy carbonation. malty body. decent. SSSteve (2108), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
