4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I bought a 24 case of 12oz. export to Japan from the brewery, and thought it was great. I think I’ll stick to this beer from Rogue, very nice.

330ml bottle from Hop Hideout as Ezo Soba Beer - Hazy yellow body, foamy white top. Nice fruity aroma, seems a bit sugarcane-like in the nose. Taste is pleasant enough, quite refreshing, but nothing worth shouting about. Short finish.

22oz bottle in fl. Pleasant fruity aroma. Hazy yellow pour. Liked first few sips but got old quick. Bitter. Sticky mouthfeel. Costs way too much

2.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
355 ml bottle as “Ezo Zaru Shirushi Soba Beer” at abv 3.0% bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.
Translucent amber golden colour; Near zero finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 5 seconds; Poor sticky lacing and near zero carbonation; Fragrant and sweet aroma of Amber malt, with caramel, canned peach, apricots, light floral, sugar and light yeast; Light sweet taste of light Ale malt, with moderate roastyness, buckwheat, light caramel, molasses, yeast, bitter lime, very strong bitter hops and grass;Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is light Amber malt in runny background, which gives way to roasty buckwheat, which is very coarse and bitter to the tongue but not as bad as most Gluten-free beers. Not much fruity taste, just molasses and sharp lime to round. Kinda okay…
Hoppiness is canned peach, apricots and light floral in nose. Bitter lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, highly astringent roast grain finish; Quite dry after taste; Very bitter and coarse to mouth.
Comments: This one would have been a light and refreshing Ale if only the coarseness of buckwheat can be agjusted and lesser bitterness which doesn’t really fit the style. Otherwise I like the good fruity hoppy aroma and its dryness. Once is enough.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
It was a very smooth beer a good light ale, but I don't know if I would pay that much money again for this beer. It was just an average attempt at an ale from rogue!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1/2 of a 22 oz bottle served in a pint glass (from notes).
A: Amber; slightly hazy; fine white head has excellent retention.
S: Has a very appealing aroma mainly from light toasted malt but also, I believe, from the soba (buckwheat).
T: follows aroma, with just hints of the earthiness and spiciness found in bolder Rogue brews. I thought the flavor profile was excellent for a beer designed to be consumed with Asian food.
M: Enough carbonation (medium) to be a little crisp and refreshing, especially with the surprisingly dry finish. Medium body.
O: Not enough complexity to be great, but a truly fine tasting beer that, as one might expect, was an excellent pairing with sushi. Highly drinkable. Seemed to be neither harmed nor helped by warming.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. As Rogue Buckwheat Ale. Curious Hop, Otley. Murky orange. With a little help it keeps a thick, bubbly, off white head. Spicy lager type malts on the nose. Bit of wheat. Dig deep and there’s a blueberryish hop note. Taste is light dry. Hint of sweet. Decent body. Finishes with a little grassy bitterness. Not a lot going on, but I sort of enjoyed it for that. Probably glad I didn’t go for the bomber, though.
