Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Jan 17, 2009 Smell of flowers and grapes. Palate of Brut wine, very dry. Strong hop flavor, like an imperial IPA with no head and prunes. Not very "pleasant" for a barley wine, but still good. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jan 16, 2009 2002 vintage. Brownish colored pour with a small off white head. Toffee, dark fruits, some hoppiness and caramel on the nose. There is a lot going on here. The alcohol is present in the taste along with dark fruits, citrus hops, caramel, light fruits and some chocolate. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Jan 14, 2009 Pours brown with aromas of caramel, ripe fruit, and lots of hops. Flavor is sweet malt, toffee, lots of hop bitterness, and hot alcohol. Could use some aging. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 13, 2009 Ceramic Bottle 2006...piss poor!...bad bottle?...musty flavors like an old basement that has never been cleaned...has a mold problem, and is most likely infested with millipedes and spiders...as the insects join the drains, so does this beer...what a shame...the color was a dirty brown...the site wont allow all ones for this beer so 2’s it is...if and when I re-rate it I will change this score to the appropriate corresponding numbers grandgenie (252), gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 12, 2009 Dégusté avec french tickler le 5 juin 2007.
*Drank at le Mondial 07* Murky brown poor with a thin brown head. Aromas of caramel, star anise, nicely spiced, blueberries and a sweet tartness to it. Very bitter ... reminds minds me of a good mix between an imperial IPA and barley wine. Flavors of alcohol, spices, caramel and hints of many different peppers... Preaty good!
Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Jan 9, 2009 The great burnt orange color of this beer was the same as the stunning red-head’s trusses across the bar from me. Both the beer and the girl were beautiful. The cream colored head (beer, not girl) was not dense, and settled to a thick lace. I know not if the girl was dense, but I’d love to see her lace. The first taste is a big fruity burst in the mouth. A flash of big sweetness. Orange and candied fruit. The sweetness lingers and then suddenly turns sharp and bitter. Probably with the red-head too. But ’twas a lovely brew, and a lovely view. Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jan 7, 2009 Dark amber, white head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Full bodied, good balance, nice bitterness. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 6, 2009 12oz Bottle. Brewed/Bottled in 2004. What a find! Pours a murky amber-brown with a thin off-white head that fades quickly leaving some milky swirls, and leaves a few sticky dots. Aroma is intense - caramel, toffee, dark fruits, some citrus hops, a hint of alcohol, and dried raisins. Taste is alcohol warmth and bitterness up front, followed by some dark fruits and then fades into a apricot/caramel/toffee explosion. Solid Barley Wine.
