barleynhops (82), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Oct 24, 2008 This was my fist Barley WIne, but I was impressed by its taste. Very malty and robust, I recommend for a first time experience. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 21, 2008 Bottle, 2006 Vintage - Pours a murky dark amber with a creamy off-white head with moderate retention. Sweet & malty aroma, very woodsy & sweet, light taste of cherry. Taste is very strong and rich, loads of sweet caramel malt and oily hops. Fruity with present alcohol, and a warming but oily hop finish. Good carbonation, very thick chewy body. I could have aged this a few more years, those hops sure are aggressive! Very tasty, though. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Oct 18, 2008 One of the better regular offered BW’s for me. I like the amount of hops and it is very rich and strong. Sticky and sweet and fruity too. Strong and malty. Nice always. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008) Dark reddish brown colour, cloudy, with brief beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, prunes and vinous alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dried fruit, prunes, orange peel and loads of hops in a long, resiny finish. Very sweet and full bodied, but that is nicely balanced by all the hops. Thick, oily and powerful. Not for the faint hearted, but very warming. Great beer! BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Oct 1, 2008 2006 From the big .75 liter ceramic bottle shared with Mike C. Red copper color with off-white head. Rich malty and fruity aroma, typical of most barleywines. Alcohol is present right up front but diminishes after a few sips. Hops big in the aftertaste. As you drink this it becomes more balanced between hops and malt. Not as thick on the palate as other barleywines which tricks you into drinking this quicker. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 on tap from rogue brewery in newport. dark yellow brown pour with almost no head at all. chocolate, raisins, nuts and caramel in the taste. seemed a fairly straightforward barley wine taste. light on the carbonation. seemed thinner maybe because of it - I’ll say medium palate. this was good and I liked it- but didn’t blow me away by any means. K7 Collint (452), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2008 Draft at Brewgrass 2008. American style Barley Wine. Pours a dark hazy amber with a thin brown head. Whoo 120 IBU’s, super hoppy beer with a clean bitter taste and the high alcohol finish. Pretty good interesting beer, i enjoyed the high bitterness in this one. Not something to drink all the time astrofrk (218), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 29, 2008 1 yr. Dark amber. Small, long head. Aroma: Earthy hops, fruits. Flavor: Bitter malts & hops. Long bitter, dry finish.
Typical Rogue flavor shared by Stone and Dogfish Head. Stong enough to hide the fact that the alcahol you hardly taste is about to put you into the land of Oz.
