Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. 2008 vintage. Dark fermented fruits with a decently sweet malt backbone. Awesome for a 5+ year old beer. Great.

The aroma is very powerful, I could smell it as I poured into a glass. Strong fruity smells, a mix of squished berries. The taste reminds me of black currants overwhelming the malt. Tangy mouthfeel but the alcohol is nicely disguised. Not really to my liking. I prefered the last barleywine I tried but neither are my preferred style.

Draft at the brewery, and from memory. Fairly standard stuff in terms of color, head, and aroma within this style. Nothing jumped out. Big malt presence, but balanced well with hop bitterness. I thought it needed more complexity and interesting flavors to make it stand out more. Nice to have finally tried it.

(Cuvée 2008): Un belle robe rubis surmontée d’une tête qui se dissipe rapidement. Les houblons sont presque disparues mais l’amertume est encore bien vive et enrobe le profil très grillé, moins sucré qu’anticipé.

Bottled, 2005 vintage, thanks KansaiBeerLvrs! Hazy mahogany colour, miniscule head. Salted caramel and white pepper up front. Sweet and full bodied with rounded, firm mouthfeel. Mature caramel, bell peppers and salt. Long bitter warming finish. A heavy, solid barley wine.
Earlier Rating: 10/2/2006 Total Score: 3.4
Bottled. Hazy amber. The aroma has loads of caramel hay and apricots. Sweet and full bodied with compact mouthfeel. Very hoppy with notes of pineapple and yeast, lots of toffeeish malt. Extremely bitter finish.

2010 7oz nip bottle.
Aroma has light maltiness with some caramel and lightly toasted bread notes. Some earthy and herbal hop notes with a touch of citrus. Hop notes are fairly balanced compared to the malt notes but even with age are a bit strong compared to the malt.
Pours a murky lighter brown with a moderately thick tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. Faint lacing and moderately small legs.
Flavor is fairly malt forward upfront with moderate toasted bread and hints of caramel. The malt fades very quickly though and is overwhelmed by bitterness and hop flavors. Hops are very herbal with a lot of resin and a hint of citrus. Lingering bitterness with a touch of malt and herbal hops. Very light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth.
Overall a fairly nice American barleywine. Lots of hop character even with a few years of age but it could use a bit more malt complexity.

Great mouth taste and feel for a barley wine. Hard core barley wine. Straight forward barley wine. Nothing special barley wine . Great example of a barley wine. My head is spinning barley whine. Strong and hop forward barley wine!!

Malty vinous flavor, raisins, dades, caramel, toffee, warming alcohol, some hops, grass, prunes. Toffee finish with caramel, vinous, grass and alcohol. I liked this.

Tasted in mid-2012 from a bottle shared at a tasting. Pours cloudy burnt copper orange with no real head, but just thin tan lace. The nose is full of burnt brown sugar and toffee with some great toasted bitterness and a hint of vanilla. The flavor is completely dry with more burnt bitterness than anything else, along with the caramel and toffee prevalent but fading. The body is full with average carbonation and a long, very bitter toasted finish.
