4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap from rogue store. Great pour and medium body. Smooth and a bit sweet with a bit of head. Great heaviness for a barley wine and alcohol shines thru. Tasty. Would do again.

Reasonably good color with some bits in it. Smells very good, balanced.. malty and perhaps some vanilla. Taste is great, not overly sweet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Rogue Public House - Portland. How have I never rated this? I know Iíve had this beer multiple times. Deep amber colored beer with a thin layer of khaki foam. Enormous brown sugar, caramel, and woody hops on the nose. Pretty heavy toffee, too. Slight candied apple. Thereís a pretty big woody hop and grass flavor to it. Kind of an oily citrus note, too. Despite the bitterness, still quite sweet. But a decent enough barleywine.

12 oz bottle pour, split. 2000 vintage. Much thanks to Tcon for sharing this. Always fun to try a beer that was made when I was still in grade school. Pours dark, with a flat appearance. No head. Raisin, and vanilla aroma. Flat taste, but surprisingly smooth. Dry finish with heavy hops and light fruit. Very fun to try, and flavor is still holding up well. Good beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A very good barleywine, not as malty as some others. Pours a clearish amber with a thick grey head. Smells of fruit, caramel, malts and sea salt. Taste is bright fruit with pineapple and peach with some scotch notes, and sea salt in the finish. Had on tap at Billcos.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Rogue in SF. Raisin and brandy aroma; quite nice. Enormous raisin and grape taste, sweet with some caramel, and a clean ever-so-slightly bitter finish. Very good barley wine.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is pretty good for a barleywine. They usually are a little too bitter for my liking, but this is well balanced and VERY smooth. I donít know if it is worth the price. Can probably achieve the same result buying a six-pack of Bigfoot Ale for half the price. If you are looking for an expensive luxury beer, and like Barleywine, then is probably worth trying.

i've had the New Crusty, now the old. It's completely different, it's a stand alone, it's a gem. A lovely malty aroma with a fearsome bite, it's delicate on the nose with a good kick at the palate. I love it, i'm glad I split the bottle, cos, wow boy, this one packs a punch.

Dark, thick and with a slow, long running maltiness which fades off into a subtle sweetness at the back of the palate

This did not turn out the way I thought it would. I love barley wine with a good manís fervour, but Iím afraid this isnít a great example. Darkish mahogany coloured with nil head, it had mellow woody aromas and flavours that were reminiscent of biting down on a piece of white oak. It seemed harsher than the preceding two barley wines in a style that tends to be well rounded from its again. Not the case here despite 7 years on the clock, which is unfortunate.
