Thick, cacao and malty body. Almost syrupy, but not cloying. Finishes with a pump of bold hops over the tongue. Piny, grapefruity, and boozy. Quite delicious. doublebock (196), USA

I’ve had this particularly intense BW in a flight of fresh all the way to 10 years old. Fresh it is going to knock your palate to the ground with lots of hops and spices. A year or two and the grand flavors of the fruity malts will become more present. Aging this will mellow and blend the flavors beautifully until you get to around year 6 where a tiny bit of that soy flavor will start to creep in. By 10 years, the soy has definitely taken over quite a bit, BUT, the original flavor is definitely detectable, and overall, still somewhat enjoyable. Good stuff. pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2008 Dark ruby pour with a thin off white head. Malt driven aroma and flavor. Some caramel, toffee, hops, and chocolate round it out. A bit too sweet, but good for a small sample. AmEricanbrew (1808), Doing Rogue, Louisiana, USA

Big sweet plum, fig, and date aroma with cinnamon spice. Smooth full body with no carbonation. Great malt driven flavors of charred marshmallow, pit fruits, cinnamon with a warming spicy alcohol to finish. This is one beer i like better aged than fresh, wow... Enjoyed this on Jan.31 2008

Nose of floral and citrus hops, and sweet malts. Mouthfeel thick and oily . Flavor is sweet and slightly bitter, and you sure notice the alcohol.burn. Bitter finish. However the 11.5% alcohol starts to numb the tongue near the finish. I wanted this one for rating number 900, but this probably could have used another year on the shelf in the beer cellar. Served at cellar temperature - 55 degrees. carruthm (1122), Seattle, Washington, USA

dark ruby with a quickly gone head. a bit grainy compared to most other barley wines. I’d probably give it two years to age.
