Sweet, fruity nose, some caramel and toffee. Small amount of alcohol comes through. Smooth palate with very light carbonation. Taste has some toffee up front with a bitter finish. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2007 Had this beer on 12/9/1998. Color is a hazy orange amber with very low carbonation and head. Aroma is strong with the scent of sweet rich malt. Taste is also strong and very full of flavor. It starts off with a very rich and almost creamy body that goes down with a sharp little bite. The finish comes on with a rich wine like barley taste followed by a strong bitterness and hop flavoring. It’s like drinking beer concentrate. espunk03 (2), USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 29, 2007 bread, roasty, resin, alcohol, alcohol, alcohol, amber, clear, aminimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, full body, full body, lively... It had a large head and poured a dark murky red-brown. Very robust, bitter and hopped up flavor lingering forever on the back of the tongue. Nice, but maybe not what I was looking for. golubj (1286), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Draft at Hop Devil Grill. The aroma is somewhat lighter than I expected, but a mixture of citrus hops and malt. The flavor is a little peppery at first from the malt, followed by sweet fruit, and a dry, slightly bitter finish. It’s alright. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 14, 2007 2006 XS series in a 26 oz. ceramic bottle. Pours a copper color with red hues, thin head. Aroma of some dried fruits, malts, hops and alcohol. Flavor was full and complex. Malts, raisin, toffee, hops and a warming alcohol to smooth things out. This was aged for over a year, so it wasn’t as bitter, but still packed a bit of a hop punch. Very delicious and intoxicating!
