Both the head and the beer has a redish color and is clear. For a Barley Wine this beer is very hoppy. The mouthfeel is bitter from the hops. I believe this beer will gain a lot as a vintage beer. Pours a murky dangerous looking brown color with no hr=ead. Extremly malty caramel aroma with some hop bitterness coming through. The taste was the same with some burnt notes as well. Thick, rich, and chewy with bitter finish. jlruthven (136), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA

Pours deep reddish purple with nice full tan head that diminishes to a bubbly cap in the center of the beer’s top. Lacing for hours. Smells of dark fruits, raisin and plum, intense hops. Taste is very smooth for a beer this strong, hoppy for a barleywine. One is quite enough! 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Thanks to the beer being aged. The taste was was very nice. I certainly enjoyed this one, but would love to have a raw one to get the full smack in the face bitterness. grandet (479), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

Carbonation ok for a barley wine.Very bitter, herbaceous aftertaste. A good "sipping" beer, but a little hard for those not used to strong hops. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2007 2006, ceramic bottle. Deep, dark brownish-red pour with a foamy cream colored head. Good balanced aroma - strong malt and hop characters, vanilla, oak, alcohol comes through in the right ways. Little bit of sour fruit in there also... cherry, grapefruit. Flavor isn’t as balanced - big, big hop profile with plenty of bitterness, in the finish also. Flavor is much less complex than the aroma. I expected a fuller mouthfeel from the alcohol, but it’s not bad. Overall, its a good barley wine, and, if the flavor was more balanced and/or complex, it would be excellent. brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA
