May 21, 2007 2005 Ceramic Bottle. Not much head. Nice alcoholic and bitter aromas. Carbonation ok for a barley wine.Very bitter, herbaceous aftertaste. A good "sipping" beer, but a little hard for those not used to strong hops.

May 18, 2007 2006, ceramic bottle. Deep, dark brownish-red pour with a foamy cream colored head. Good balanced aroma - strong malt and hop characters, vanilla, oak, alcohol comes through in the right ways. Little bit of sour fruit in there also... cherry, grapefruit. Flavor isn’t as balanced - big, big hop profile with plenty of bitterness, in the finish also. Flavor is much less complex than the aroma. I expected a fuller mouthfeel from the alcohol, but it’s not bad. Overall, its a good barley wine, and, if the flavor was more balanced and/or complex, it would be excellent.

May 11, 2007 2005 ceramic bottle. Excellent barley wine, one of the better ones i have had if not the best, hats off to rouge. nice deep amber color, can definitely taste the age and the hops....much love!!!!

May 10, 2007 Updated: Nov 30, 20082006 vintage bomber. Slightly hazy dark garnet with smallish head that sort of lasts. Nose is rusty malt with some dark fruits. Taste is peppery malt with some alcohol. Palate is thick and smooth-tingly. This bottle says 11.5% abv. A bit rough, and way overpriced; possibly some more aging would do it well.

May 9, 2007 Myddy ruby with a lasting off-white head, really good looking for a barley wine. Dried fruits, molasses and some port in the aroma. Big flavour, sweetish, but with a hefty bitterness, hop flavour and some warming alcohol. It may be meant for storing, but the hops were wonderful this way.

May 1, 2007 It’s very beautiful, dark red mahogany with a huge, golden, creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, spicy resin and figs. The flavour has light sweetness, notes of malt, dark fruit (like figs), citrus (mostly grapefruit) and resin. The bitterness is quite pronounced, more so that in most BW’s. 2030

Apr 29, 2007 Oddly light, sweet smell. Black as the deep night with an eerie red outline. Big bubble-bath tan head. Some hops, relatively smooth. About the only beer I have EVER detected an "alcohol burn" from. Not the best barleywine taste I’ve had but it tastes good. Very full feel, soft carbonation. Bitter aftertaste. The only barley I have rated under 4....
