WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Mar 6, 2007 3/4/07 Draft @ Stone World Bistro. I’ve been thinking of having this for a while in the big ole expensive ceramic bottles, thsi draft cost me much less. Pours brownish red with no light coming through. The head was pinky height with a nice tan color. The aroma is sweet with notes of dreid fruit, and hops, this nose is huge. This is a big BW, strong, strong and strong. There is some complexity though. Better than the Barleycorn that preceeded this. NJBeerman013 (764), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Mar 2, 2007 One of those cool pottery bottles- Pours a ruby redish color with little to no head. The aroma is cloyingly sweet floral with a touch of berries. The flavor is huge of fruits, sugar, and alcohol. Gotta say not my favorite barley wine, however a solid example. bluesman42@gmailcom (43), Arkansas, USA Feb 28, 2007 Hops, hops, and more hops. I like the dryness. I may just have to drink a big bottle of water after this one. So damn tasty. Harsh, bitter. I loved it. rmussman (905), California, USA Feb 28, 2007 Wow so much to say about this beer. The aroma is excellent, full of hops and melded spices. The appearance starts with a ceramic bottle, which is just sweet. The pour is dark dark brown with a thick head. I kind of miss poured so the head was huge. Mouthfell is sweet but smooth. The flavor is tremendous. Very similar to Sierra Nevada Bigfoot, but much more cloudy and thick. A great brew. Very expensive though. smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA Feb 25, 2007 aroma more subtle than some bwines. citrus and a little pine with sweet toffee and alcohol behind. tiny notes of roasted malts and caramel. taste is powerful hops and malt. citrus with semisweet toffee/caramel fading into a very strong piney bitterness. quite wonderful. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Feb 24, 2007 2006 Ceramic bottle, trappist glass, Hops, very nice hops, of the NW variety. Malty, nice dark malts, reminds me very much of Dark Rye bread. even a touch sour. Pours very dark brown, alcohol is not too dominate, pretty good, Very big probably the most flavorful Rogue brew I have had. Big and powerful. I quite enjoyed it. I need to buy another one of these ceramics and let it sit for year or two to see the changes. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 18, 2007 Updated: Mar 6, 20092006 EXPENSIVE 750ml bottle; nose of caramel, figs, sweetness, and spices; Hazy cherry brown with a medium but big-bubbled beige head; Flavor of alcohol (this bottle says 11.5%), dark fruit, spices, caramel , and hopbitterness in the medium body, the hops and alcohol lasting to the finish. Could use a couple of years of aging! 8/3/7/3/15/3.6
1993 6.4 oz green screwtop nip bottle from paiste2002, thanks!!! Nose of figs, caramel, and brown sugar. Murky rust brown with a few bubbles, only a light hiss as I opened the bottle. Flavor is not too bad for a 16 year old bottle, caramel, raisins, light bitterness, and only very light oxidation in the background. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Feb 18, 2007 At the 2nd Annual Hell With The Lid Off Barley Wine Festival at Kelly’s Bar in East Liberty, Pittsburgh. Clear dark ruby orange, thin off white head. Aroma is metal, grass, citrus, malt. Flavor is corn, malt, bitter, caramel, vanilla, alcohol.
