Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 9, 2006 Updated: May 8, 2009Ceramic swingtop. Murky brown with a thin off white head. Mildly sweet malt and orange nose, some spiciness. Resiny hops. Alcohol is apparent. Flavor is malt, booze and more malt. This baby is too hot - might age, but too pricey for what it is.
Re-rate - Daytona 500 tasting. 2006 swingtop. MUCH better now, not as hot, mellow and smooth. All the above stuff is there, but much better integrated. Numbers based on this sample. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 6, 2006 "Thanks to eagle for this one we did an 11 year old bottle and this years bottles back to back. 11 year old bottled poured with not head dark brown. Aroma was of strong maple vinous notes. Flavor was hops made it 11 years, wood and caramel. Mouthfeel was a little thin. Fastforward to 06 bottle. were they the same beers??? tasted totally different. Poured a redish brown color small head. Aroma was of caramel alcohol and light fruits. Flavor was much the same with some pinhops to it as well. Mouthfeel was a little dry."
gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 3, 2006 From ceramic 750. Pours a murky brown orange with frothy tan head. Nose is large malt, alcohol spice and citrus. Flavor is more large caramel malt, with alcohol throughout. Might want to lay another one down, but not for this price. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Sep 2, 2006 2004 bottle. Sweet like maple syrup up-front w/ spicy alcohol and bitter hop finish. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2006 The aroma is quite nice with plenty of hops and a caramel like malt. The appearance is cloudy brown with an average head. The flavor does not have the caramel that I was expecting from the aroma but it does have a lot of alcohol with coffee and grapefruit. The palate is smooth but not as thick as it should be. The finish is very warm. This is not too bad but I am not a big fan of this beer. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2006 Updated: Sep 4, 2006An expensive beer to buy, so make sure to sip it carefully. Aroma is potent with sweet like maple syrup. taste is a full flavor beer with rich deep dark malts and taste of citrus, and a strong aftertaste of coffee unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Aug 27, 2006 I was once told by and good drinking buddy of mine that Old Crusty was Evil in a Bottle. Now DonYounger calls him the TreeHugger.
Rusty brown head on top of the muddiest brown malt toughness you’ve ever seen. Hopp aroma to burn off your nose hairs. The first BW I’ve ever had. I thought all BWs were all like this. I wish. Hop bitterness is the ultimate palate killer. A condensed BREWER. Thank you John for getting me to the next level with this beer! shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Aug 27, 2006 Shared this one with my good friend Terry while brewing up batches of a Budvar clone, an Arrogant Bastard clone, and a German Chocolate Stout... Hazy dark mahogany color. Moderate carbonation that seems to hang in the thick, tasty brew. Aroma and initial flavor is sweet and alcoholic (warming, but not overpowering) - reminiscent of liquor filled chocolate covered cherries. Finish hits with a hefty bitterness that lingers in the back of the throat. Thicker mouthfeel, although not quite as thick as it looks.
750 mL ceramic bottle.
