Nose is large malt, alcohol spice and citrus. Flavor is more large caramel malt, with alcohol throughout. Might want to lay another one down, but not for this price. jimbowood (950), Athens, Georgia, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Aug 31, 2006 The aroma is quite nice with plenty of hops and a caramel like malt. The appearance is cloudy brown with an average head. The flavor does not have the caramel that I was expecting from the aroma but it does have a lot of alcohol with coffee and grapefruit. The palate is smooth but not as thick as it should be. The finish is very warm. This is not too bad but I am not a big fan of this beer. Palidor19 (1762), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 27, 2006 I was once told by and good drinking buddy of mine that Old Crusty was Evil in a Bottle. Now DonYounger calls him the TreeHugger.
Rusty brown head on top of the muddiest brown malt toughness you’ve ever seen. Hopp aroma to burn off your nose hairs. The first BW I’ve ever had. I thought all BWs were all like this. I wish. Hop bitterness is the ultimate palate killer. A condensed BREWER. Thank you John for getting me to the next level with this beer! shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Shared this one with my good friend Terry while brewing up batches of a Budvar clone, an Arrogant Bastard clone, and a German Chocolate Stout... Hazy dark mahogany color. Moderate carbonation that seems to hang in the thick, tasty brew. Aroma and initial flavor is sweet and alcoholic (warming, but not overpowering) - reminiscent of liquor filled chocolate covered cherries. Finish hits with a hefty bitterness that lingers in the back of the throat. Thicker mouthfeel, although not quite as thick as it looks.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 14, 2006 Updated: Nov 12, 2006From a black, ceramic bottle with a swing top. Unfiltered and unrefined is right. The color of this beer resembles a nut brown ale and the creamy, lacing head is off white to tan. The moment I openned the bottle I was taken back by the strong whiskey aroma, almost like a bottle of Dewars. The initial flavor is sticky sweet and fruity. Then the strong malt kicks in and smooths out the heavy alcohol which can only be felt after the sip in the throat. This is a great beer. Great aroma, great appearance, great flavor, great alcohol. adamnfineman (53), Springfield, Oregon, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 13, 2006 Draught at Eugene City Brewery. A nice initial flavor is followed by a bitterness that will floor you if you’re not ready for it. Regardless, it finished well and if you’re in the mood it is a very nice drink.
