Old Crustacean is best when aged for one year.

Shared this one with my good friend Terry while brewing up batches of a Budvar clone, an Arrogant Bastard clone, and a German Chocolate Stout... Hazy dark mahogany color. Moderate carbonation that seems to hang in the thick, tasty brew. Aroma and initial flavor is sweet and alcoholic (warming, but not overpowering) - reminiscent of liquor filled chocolate covered cherries. Finish hits with a hefty bitterness that lingers in the back of the throat. Thicker mouthfeel, although not quite as thick as it looks. 750 mL ceramic bottle.

From a black, ceramic bottle with a swing top. Unfiltered and unrefined is right. The color of this beer resembles a nut brown ale and the creamy, lacing head is off white to tan. The moment I openned the bottle I was taken back by the strong whiskey aroma, almost like a bottle of Dewars. The initial flavor is sticky sweet and fruity. Then the strong malt kicks in and smooths out the heavy alcohol which can only be felt after the sip in the throat. This is a great beer. Great aroma, great appearance, great flavor, great alcohol.

Draught at Eugene City Brewery. A nice initial flavor is followed by a bitterness that will floor you if you’re not ready for it. Regardless, it finished well and if you’re in the mood it is a very nice drink.

1998 Bottle. Pours deep ruby red with zero head. Deep, malty aroma, conjuring images of honey, alcohol, raisins and dried cherries. In the mouth, it starts OK, but then takes on this unbelievable bitterness. It was all I could do to keep it in my mouth. The aftertaste, interestingly enough, isn’t very bitter. There’s a hint left, but it yields to the malt and alcohol as it goes down. This is the most enjoyable barley wine I’ve tried, but it’s still not something I’d seek out.

Draught at Rogue Ales Public House in San Francisco, CA. Clear reddish color with off white head that laced the glass. Smlled moslty of alcohol with dark cherry and other fried fruits. Bitter as the end took me by suprise but was nice.

From XS ceramic flip-top 750ml bottle. tried this one right away, but I am cellaring two others. Pours a cloudy reddish brown. A strong nutty and fruity flavor that has a bitter hoppy and dry finish. Each sip is strong and a new rush. Very good barley wine, i can’t wait til my others have aged.

Mine came in a 750 ml flip-top bottle. Had this one last New Year’s Eve. Good winter brew. Deep and dark. Very muddy. Cheers Mate!

Muddy deep brown colour with a tan head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with a dark fruit note and a light hoppyness. Light roasted malty flavor with a dried dark fruit sweetness and a light hoppy bitter finish.
