Pours a gorgeous churning swirling brown, with a little bit of tan head and a lot of very determined carbonation fighting through high-gravity beer. Crisp malt and hops on the nose--smells like a beer that’s happy to smell like beer, instead of trying to smell like fruit or something else. Super flat dry bitter hop finish, but loads of creamy velvet toffee and sweet malt on the attack. Classic straightforward barleywine, but very drinkable both for the style and the ABV. Did a side by side with unfiltered/unfined 7-oz. The UF is just about completely still and tastes like wort. I have to side with the mainstream release in this case. epador (4), USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 27, 2006 Straight from the Rogue Tap the appearance is deceiving. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2006 Poured a deep, clear mahogony with a thin head. Aroma is very complex comtaining caramel, candied fruits, a hint of chocolate, a high level of american citrus hops, and a warming alcoholic burn from the alcohol. Flavors fall short of the aroma with the hops and alcohol still very apparent. Also very watery, especially for the style which should be full bodied. radagast83 (1289), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

I really found the finish to be quite nice, and not overly rough. turnerm5 (12), Bellingham, Washington, USA

A price mix-up at Haggen had these in the system for $3.20, so I picked up 6 for the cellar. Dark amber pour with no lasting head. Very strong alcohol aroma, with roasted malt and caramel. Not too hoppy, the alcohol and the malt flavors dominate. This would go very well with a steak or some other rich food. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

Beautiful pour bronze/brown with a large light tan head. Aroma of hops, alcohol, citrus, and a very slight sweetness. Flavor is alcohol, sharp hops that hang until the finish, lacks any sweetness in the flavor. I feel this one was so close to greatness but lacked the finish of sweetness, or carmel, or something i am used to with Barley wines. By the way MrRomero cheers I tip my glass to you. awaller05 (300), Sharon, Wisconsin, USA

I tend to drink these barleywines too quick. This one made sure I couldn’t . Fruity taste with hard bitter finish. Took me two hours to finish this one which is a long time for me.
