larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Jun 6, 2009 Ceramic bottle
Dark redish/amber with a small bubbly head.
Floral, citric aroma and flavour. with sweet fruits. Slightly roasted and alcoholic. pilsnerrogge (1770), Finspång, Sweden May 21, 2009 750ml ceramic bottle: Pours dark reddish amber with a mid-sized, bubbly head. Sweet and malty toffee aroma. The flavour starts off sweet and malty but is soon washed away by an inpenetrable wall of bitterness; not even the taste of alcohol can get through. jujubeast6000 (772), Houston, Texas, USA May 19, 2009 Reviewed 5/13/2009 (Bottle 2008):
Pours a dark red brown colored body, with a good-sized head, tan brown color, very lasting. Aroma of brown sugar, dark fruit. Syrup. Lots of scents. Sweet brown sugar taste, dark fruit too. Aged dark fruit. Dark grape taste. Extremely sweet syrupy taste. Too much for me. JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada May 17, 2009 pours a murky colour with a nice head very stong alc. flavour which leaves a rich palate savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA May 16, 2009 750ml ceramic bottle. Resinous hop aroma filled with citrus and a floral scent. Cloudy amber with a small off white head. The flavor is bitter hops mixed with a sweet malt base. Mildly carbonated with a some what thick mouth feel. This is a good American barley wine, I should have definitely aged this a year or two. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 5, 2009
It was dark out so it was really hard to see the pour. It was dark though. Yeah, brilliant, I know.
Very little head and substantial lacing.
Flavor was out of this world, I normally prefer a hoppy barleywine, but this is what I imagine an american barleywine is supposed to taste like. Rich with molasses, lighly roasted malt and grain, some faint flavors of rich fruit. Muggus69 (500), Sydney, Australia May 3, 2009 750ml growler.
Deep copper body, slight hazy, dense ring of offwhite foam.
Somewhat sharp aroma of resiny hop and citrus, plenty of rich caramel and subtle dried fruits. Alcohol slightly detectable.
Full, sticky body, yet somewhat dried than expected, moderate carbonation. Some alcohol warmth in there, very bitter from the get go.
Nice underlying malt body, rich caramel and brown sugar, bit of raisin and oakiness, leading onto grassy, cedary, citrusy American hop character that delivers a solid, sharp bitterness. Lingering finish, drying with alcohol warmth.
I’d probably say this would age very well with such overwelming flavours, bit tough on the old tongue at a young age. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Apr 27, 2009 12oz bottle, had the 2002 and the 2004 side by side. Dark amber body with a white lacing. Raisin, and salt, a light woodiness and sweet chewy caramel and a still earthy grass y hop character a good beer at 11%.
