Sledge Jr (2708), Omaha, Nebraska, USA May 14, 2004 Vintage 1995. Tasted at my Barleywine tasting in May of 2004. WOW!!! I have saved this since 1995 and am glad that I did! Such a mellow nose. Alcohol is still strongly present to the smell. Also smells a little medicine-like (I consider this a plus). This is unfiltered and has the gloriuos color of dishwater on steroids. No head at this point. Hoppy, but balanced. Burns all the way down to your duodenum. Great flavor hops, few aromatic bitter hops detected. The only thing that I have to say negative about this beer is that it is packaged in a twist bottle that I cannot bottle my homebrew cyser in. Why did I not buy a case of this in 1995? Oh, the stupidity of youth...
kseecs16 (513), Westmont, Illinois, USA Aug 20, 2008 Draught at El Bait Shop in Des Moines, IA. Murky ruddy brown with a moderate tan head, nice creamy lacing. Aroma is sweet and fruity hops which follows in to a very sweet hoppy flavor that finishes bitter with floral notes. Full bodied. Nice hoppy barleywine, though a bit sticky sweet.
lb4lb (1340), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 8, 2008 Tiny little bottle from ’93 shared by Thickfreakness. Thanks!
Pours a maroon color with no head. Smell is soy sauce and caramel and smooth aged malt. Slightly triple bock like. Taste is creamy, nutty and a bit fruity with some soy sauce. Tastes very old indeed. Certainly entirely different from a fresh bottle, although I’ve yet to try this fresh. Bradrcr (554), Renton, Washington, USA Aug 4, 2008 7/5/08 2006 vintage, on draught at the Seattle International Beerfest. Aroma is all rich dark fruit with some caramel, but almost no roast character. Appearance is hazy brown with a well maintained cream colored head. Flavor is rich and roasty with lots of caramel andmoderate alcohol. Mouthfeel is full bodied with moderate carb texture and a lingering resin feel. Overall, great and big, a lot of beer that will lay down for a while.
Rogueone (365), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jul 29, 2008 Bottle (02): Blushing brown pour with a think white ring of head. Aroma is brown sugar, spices, cinnamon and alcohol in the nose. Flavor is extremely dry, with a malty blast and alcohol very present in the finish. daknole (644), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2008 Amber color, light brown head. Aromas of malt, sugar, caramel. Tongue is sweet and a bit too much actually. A small hop bite at the end helps this brew. Drinkable? Oh hell yeah. World class? Hardly.
