2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Odysseyalien (19) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 20, 2012It may not be fair for me to rate this as I prefer British barleywines to American. While I like pale ales and DIPAs, I don’t care for the added hops in my barleywine which is generally the American barleywine style. The British barleywines are much less hoppy.
Still, in my opinion, this one was too bitter for me even for an American barleywine. I almost poured the balance of my glass down the sink. Improved slightly as it warmed . Not my style but even then, I was put off by this beer unfortunately.

750ml bottle of ceramic goodness. Lovely golden hue with a pillowy head that caresses the palate. Richness on the palate without being overbearing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Holmen1 (1079) - NORWAY - MAY 13, 2013
Eneste gang denne kvelden at glasset var akkurat passe stort...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 OKplus (379) - Oklahoma, USA - MAY 9, 2013
2010 7oz bottle.
A - Pours a cloudy dark apricot with 1.5 finger off-white head.
S - Sticky slabs of rich caramel, doughy, caramelized brown sugar, ripe oranges, fruity alcohol, strawberry compote, fresh leather underneath
T - Moderate bitterness off the top-spicy, the sugary caramel malt sneaks in and brings in dark fruits that are hard to pick out. The hops quickly take over again with a concentration grapefruit pith sensation that covers everything all the way through the finish. Sweet tobacco comes out when warm.
M - Super creamy, very tight carbonation, full bodied, alcohol is evident. Very long bitter finish.
The nose is all malt but the taste is very hop forward, very complex though. One of the hoppiest American Barley Wine out there. This is good as is but would love for some age to bring out more of that malt in the flavor.
