3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 5000 (4967) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JUN 2, 2004Bottle (2003 version) pours deep ruby, large frothy cream colored head, with attractive brewers lace. Sweet pine, hops, and a sweaty locker room on the nose. Slight burnt sugar notes as well. Flavor is forwardly semi-sweet with a nice hop flavor. Not overly bitter, but this one isnt as sweet as other barleywines. Seems a true PNW example. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness. Body and palate are very nice. A nice diversion from the usual overly sweet barleywines. 10.5% is well hidden. Highly recommended!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Holmen1 (1073) - NORWAY - MAY 13, 2013
Eneste gang denne kvelden at glasset var akkurat passe stort...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 OKplus (355) - Oklahoma, USA - MAY 9, 2013
2010 7oz bottle.
A - Pours a cloudy dark apricot with 1.5 finger off-white head.
S - Sticky slabs of rich caramel, doughy, caramelized brown sugar, ripe oranges, fruity alcohol, strawberry compote, fresh leather underneath
T - Moderate bitterness off the top-spicy, the sugary caramel malt sneaks in and brings in dark fruits that are hard to pick out. The hops quickly take over again with a concentration grapefruit pith sensation that covers everything all the way through the finish. Sweet tobacco comes out when warm.
M - Super creamy, very tight carbonation, full bodied, alcohol is evident. Very long bitter finish.
The nose is all malt but the taste is very hop forward, very complex though. One of the hoppiest American Barley Wine out there. This is good as is but would love for some age to bring out more of that malt in the flavor.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 teorn88 (1198) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 14, 2013
On tap at CPK, London. It pours a clear ruby copper color with a small beige head. Rich caramel, malty aroma, I get very little hops in the nose. Little head, hazy ruby-brown color. Smooth bittersweet malt flavor with some spicy hops mixed in, and a bitter, piney hop finish. Some warming from the alcohol, but its not overbearing at all. Nice American barley wine.
