The strongest beer brewed in Oregon. You know it has to be good, and it is.

Intensiv malziger, scharf schokoladig bitterer Antrunk, gänzlich ohne Karbonisierung. Die Intensität bleibt hoch, Espresso, deutlich Vanille. Dabei sehr weich, der Alkohol ist höchstens ahnbar. Viskos, erneut Bitterschokolade. Pflaume, mild herb. Langer Nachgeschmack. 8/13/9/13/11/13

XS 2013 Batch: Pours a hazy dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, toffee, citrus fruit, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a sweet flavor and an herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is tasty and easy to drink, a bit pricey, i wish they didnt have to use these ceramic bottles.

Pours a murky caramel brown with a light brown/tan head, impressive. Potent aromas: caramel, bread, cereal, resin, floral, dough, leather, alcohol, cooked vegetables, and some vanilla. Amazing. Flavor is off balance but delicious. Super sweet, sour, then bitter and salt. Better than I first thought. Finish is mostly bitter and alcohol. Wonderful stuff.

Tap from rogue store. Great pour and medium body. Smooth and a bit sweet with a bit of head. Great heaviness for a barley wine and alcohol shines thru. Tasty. Would do again.

Reasonably good color with some bits in it. Smells very good, balanced.. malty and perhaps some vanilla. Taste is great, not overly sweet.

On tap @ Rogue Public House - Portland. How have I never rated this? I know I’ve had this beer multiple times. Deep amber colored beer with a thin layer of khaki foam. Enormous brown sugar, caramel, and woody hops on the nose. Pretty heavy toffee, too. Slight candied apple. There’s a pretty big woody hop and grass flavor to it. Kind of an oily citrus note, too. Despite the bitterness, still quite sweet. But a decent enough barleywine.

12 oz bottle pour, split. 2000 vintage. Much thanks to Tcon for sharing this. Always fun to try a beer that was made when I was still in grade school. Pours dark, with a flat appearance. No head. Raisin, and vanilla aroma. Flat taste, but surprisingly smooth. Dry finish with heavy hops and light fruit. Very fun to try, and flavor is still holding up well. Good beer.

A very good barleywine, not as malty as some others. Pours a clearish amber with a thick grey head. Smells of fruit, caramel, malts and sea salt. Taste is bright fruit with pineapple and peach with some scotch notes, and sea salt in the finish. Had on tap at Billcos.

On tap at Rogue in SF. Raisin and brandy aroma; quite nice. Enormous raisin and grape taste, sweet with some caramel, and a clean ever-so-slightly bitter finish. Very good barley wine.

This is pretty good for a barleywine. They usually are a little too bitter for my liking, but this is well balanced and VERY smooth. I don’t know if it is worth the price. Can probably achieve the same result buying a six-pack of Bigfoot Ale for half the price. If you are looking for an expensive luxury beer, and like Barleywine, then is probably worth trying.
