COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

Bottle. Aroma is hoppy with a hint of spruce. Pours amber/copper colored with a half inch of head that lingers. Taste is hoppy with spruce notes with a very dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle (2011?) served in lager glass. A - Dark red mahogany with a fine tan head. Head has good retention and leaves attractive lacing. Slighty hazy. Medium strength aroma that is primarily hoppy gives way to a flavor with more malt balance than anticipated. Malt is clearly in aroma too, but the balance changes in tasting. Meanwhile, excellent sweet/bitter balance. Slightly too earthy: otherwise, flavor = 8. Nice dynamic and lasting finish. M - nice smooth feel, medium body with good level of carbonation. O - Think, Imperial Red Ale. Good enough to go out and buy a couple more bottles to stow away for next Xmas.

DocJitsu (307) - California, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Pours a mildly cloudy orange-amber color with a huge, fluffy light taupe head. Some tropical fruit and citrus on the nose. Mouthfeel is average. Pretty light-bodied, wet, but gets a little dryer toward the finish. The flavor is nearly off-putting. It tastes like I’d dropped my homemade Christmas pull candy in my APA. These flavors just don’t blend well. The wrong hop/grain combination. If this is what Santa drinks, then he can stay out of my chimney.

12 oz bottle. Reddish-copper color with a nice off-white foam. The aroma is spruce hops and mild malts. Medium body with a thick texture and soft carbonation. Piney, bitter hop flavor with light caramel and light chocolate. Bitter dry finish. More bitterness. Meh.
