UPDATED: NOV 10, 2004 2003.I like this one alot(very much like a nice red IPA)Pours out a nice red amber.Nice tan head that quickly rolls into some decent lace. The taste and aroma is so very hoppy(I love centennial & chinook is always off the hook)Lots of resiny sharp hops, fresh!Nice malt back up.The aftertaste is long and if you don’t like in your face hops(grapefruit resin)leave Santa’s stash alone(though I wouldn’t really consider this in your face hops this time around). Is rudold included in santa’s crew of hops this year? 2004.Rogue has truly pissed me off for good. This is a mere shadow of the beer they put out last year,no sediment, where are thew crazy hops I loved last year santa?Greedy ass santa kept all the hops and sediment for him self I guess, tastes like a dead guy with some chinook thrown in,Boo! Rogue has changed for the worse across the board.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cobra (1096) - In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA - NOV 1, 2003
22 oz. brown bomber bottle. Poured out a definite red color, like looking thru a ruby. Fast fading tan head left a generous lacing down the sides of the glass. Hops dominate the aromas, with a certain spiciness in the nose. Malt aroma is subdued, with some caramel fighting to get thru. Taste is sharp, unreserved, and not for the faint of heart. Spicy hops dominate the flavors as well. Made for a nice change of pace. Finished sharp, and hoppy.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DavidP (1745) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 8, 2003
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2003 Nice deep amber color, average head but it leaves good lacing. Buttery, spicy aroma. Sprucy grapefruit dominates the flavor, with a nondescript malt backing everything up.
1.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 RichJ7 (1175) - Cullman, Alabama, USA - AUG 23, 2003
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2007 Once one of my least favorite beers, I decided to retry this one last night after years of despising its memory. It had a dark amber pour with an inch-thick rocky off-white head. Peppery, hoppy aroma: very earthy. Flavor is earthy hops over the thinnest of malt backbones. It’s extremely bitter and not even close to what I would consider well-balanced. It’s not as horrible as I remembered, but I definitely see what I didn’t like in this beer. Won’t try it again, that’s for sure.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 13, 2003
A tasty red ale, with a very nice citrus bite. Pours like Rudolph's glowing nose, with minimal head and slight lacing. Aroma is earthy and hoppy with notes of prune and caramel. Very rich flavor- plenty of hops bitterness, but with raisin, prunes, and breadiness mingling with citrus. If the hops were toned down this would rate as excellent, not merely very good.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 andy609 (143) - Auburndale, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 6, 2003
Smells like your typical English Pale Ale. A little spice added perhaps. Brown in color with yellow highlights. Very nice head of small bubbles. Cozy. Nice and hoppy with plenty of malt for balance. I purchased this at the end of July, so the seven months of aging may have made it better. Another winner from Rogue, currently my favorite brewery.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - AUG 3, 2003
Now this one just pissed me off i opened the bottle only to have it explode all over my carpet, luckily it missed the keyboard.Dark brown color, small fast fading head mild lacing left behind.Good malty aroma with a mild spiciness and possibly dried fruit presence. The taste was malty raisny and fairly well hopped a slight spicy note but mainly the hops and raisin are the big players here. The after taste is mostly hoppy with a mild fruit presence. It's a pretty decent brew and i would rate it higher if it hadn't shit all over my floor b4 i could get the glass over to it.

Had this at Bon Vivant Beer Lover's Club on 7-25-03. Thanks for this extra one Mike! Unknown vintage. Reddish brown body with a light brown head. Nose is slightly spiced and a little hoppy. The body has a malt sweetness mixed with more hops, but they are not overpowering. Pleasant finish. Look forward to more from this brewery!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BierBauch (784) - Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA - JUL 19, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 20, 2003 A deep red color which reminded me of red velvet cake and a dark vanilla colored frothy head. An intense hoppy aroma followed by a sweet German malt presence and a little of something I can't seem to put my finger on. Flavor is hoppy bitterness and a slight spiciness. This is one bitter beer from start to finish.
