Commercial Description:
Rogue's annual holiday offering, Santa's Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

Red copper...2 finger head nicely laced. Clear. Caramel vanilla roasty toast notes with caramel malt flavors and a spicy piney hop finish. Nicely balanced with med full mouthfeel. Very nice beer!

Bottle. Probably my favorite of the holiday beers. Nice mix between malt and bitterness. Very complex, like a dark pale ale. Whitish head and deep ruby color.

22 oz bomber. Ruby amber in color with a big pure white head. This a is a beer where the bark is definitely stronger than the bite. The aroma is huge on the hop, but the flavor is smooth and malty with just a touch of a hoppy tang. Tasty brew

I expected a lot more, this is a nondescript oktoberfest inspired beer with a slight hoppiness. I see no reason whatsoever to drink this beer.

Bomber. First tasted in a Christmas tasting . Bought one for later. Tastes really crisp but unimpressive when first poured, but really comes alive after exposure to air. Creamy head, good malts. Hops there but somewhat hidden. lots of carbonization. Will get some next season

(Rating #2204)
