Commercial Description:
Rogue's annual holiday offering, Santa's Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

Interesting. Seems everytime I purchase a beer based on what RB says the style is, it seems to change. Wasn’t this an American Strong Ale last month? Oh well. Good beer, pours out a dark amber color with a small head. aroma was rather hoppy with a nice balance of malt to it. Flavor was similar, but the finish was lacking. Overall, not a bad beer at all.

Maybe it’s the power of suggestion but, indeed, spucey hops on the aroma and also orange. Lots of resiny hops; that’s what this is all about. Bit of orangey, slightly sweet malts as well but the hops have the starring role. Very enjoyable.

Hazy copper pour with a tan head. Malty aroma. Creamy hop flavor with a dry, bitter finish. All in all, quite nice.

Nice dark color with amber hue. Bit of hops at the start, but not overpowering. Then comes the caramel, and that’s what was left on my tongue.

Dark amber brown. Nice hoppy bite. Nice aftertaste. I was given this by someone at work who said this was "bad" I though he he.. probably not that bad... This is almost a sprucy IPA. Probably a little past it’s prime, but still very drinkable! Some holiday spices (?) great lacing, lingering filmy head. mouth-feel a little light, but OK. Will have to seek this out next year!

Clear copper with a frothy white head. Nice spicy hop smell. Light to medium body. Nice toasted bread and caramel malt flavors with a taste of those spicy hops to finish. very drinkable. 011106

Very amber in color, deep syrupy in color but clear. Srong hoppy IPA scent. Flowery, strong but pleasent. I would say it tastes like a very good IPA, except better, not overlly intense, easier to drink, and much more enjoyable. Spicey sweet, fruity pine, soft liquid leafy, and a little bitter sweet, dry finish. Nice full feel, but easy for me to drink )3rd beer of the ngiht). A very nice ale, i would like to try it again someday.
