Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

Pours a clear amber with a frothy light beige head. The aroma gives a seasonal impression, with cinnamon, spices, caramel, and nutmeg. Good, but it is all more subtle in strength. Sadly, the taste does not continue along these lines. It is very yeasty instead, with only faint traces of cinnamon and nutmeg in the flavor. Aftertaste is yeast. Medium in body with a more thin texture. Overall, I am disappointed with this one. It is just as disappointing for a beer to have such a great name as this and representing such a respected figure as Santa.

650ml bottle. Hazy amber colour with small to average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Resinous, fruity, hoppy aroma, grapefruit notes, underlying toffee and caramel. Taste is dry, slightly grassy hoppy, some hay, lemon, a cautious nuttily touch.

Amber to brown in colour. Toasty malts in the aroma. Flavour is very malty and has an overall sweet taste. All the bitterness comes through in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Red copper color. Aroma of bitter hops. Taste is quite bitter as well, bit grassy also. Has some sharp citrus and that slight metallic touch amber beers often have. Bitter dry finish.
