COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rogue’s annual holiday offering, Santa’s Private Reserve, is a variation of the classic Saint Rogue Red, but with double the hops--including Chinook, and Centennial, and a mystery hop called Rudolph by head brewer John "more hops" Maier! This holiday elixir is brewed with two-row Harrington, Klages and Munich malts, along with Hugh Baird 30-37, Carastan 13-17, and Crystal 70-80 malts, plus free range coastal water and proprietary top-fermenting Pacman yeast.

A hazy orange beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet alcoholic and hop soup like, combined with strong notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet spicy - especially coriander comes thru, but also with light notes of caramel. The end is very dry and spicy. I find the body thin, but at the same time the alcohol leaves a warming sensation in the mouth.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Clear, dark amber with a handsome head that leaves a very pretty lacework. Fresh, hoppy somewhat grapefruitish aroma. Medium body with distinct caramel malt - and not so much more. Nice all right but not very christmasy in my book. 291205 and 061006

Burgundy with a rich creamy head. Floral hop aroma. Dry and medium boidied, spicy flavour, and a big, long lingering bitterness. They sure haven’t saved any money on hops in this beer....

Cloudy amber - brown beer, big pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and a little soft. Mild carbonation. Creamy malt with a caramel streak. Piney hops with an undertone of mandarin. Softish finish with a mildly bitter pine hop linger. Easy going and pretty drinkable.

Bottle conditioned. Pours a hazy dark amber to brown color; the head disappears quickly, but leaves clogs of foam on the surface. The aroma is very nice, at first impression, with malt and some hops from the West Coast. The mouthfeel is thinner than expected, with a dominant caramel flavor, carrying some malt, light liquorice and soy sauce too, and with a very high hopping, leading to a bitter and long final, not without qualities.
