3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had this on tap at Eli Cannons (Middletown, CT) during the Rogue tasting. It was listed as "Santa's Dry Hopped Red Ale". I'm assuming this is the same stuff. Deep red in color, with an almond tan head. Aroma is very hoppy and manly, almost surly. Not much in the way of malt, as far as I can tell in the smoky pub. Flavor is hoppy, with a nice roasty malt balance. Semi sweet, with a grassy herbal hoppiness. Body is medium to full, with moderate carbonation. I wasn't disappointed.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours clear medium to deep amber with one finger of medium tan head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is caramel malt, muddled spices and leafy hops. (4/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (5/10) Medium body, moderate to low carbonation, moderate bitter finish. (3/5)
Another meh-tactic offering from Rogue. Surprising residual bitterness on the tongue, given the almost non-existent hop presence on the nose, but that’s pretty much the best you can say about it. (10/20)

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
DATE TASTED: November 25, 2014... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... OCCASION: post LVR holiday party... APPEARANCE: thick, chunky, substantial (with staying power) off-white, two-finger head; a dark copper body that suggests a malty goodness; intricate lacing--a picture-perfect pint ... AROMA: savory caramel malts that wed with a slight spruce and citrus hop to produce a beautifully balanced, inviting aroma ... PALATE: medium-bodied, soft, more intense on the tongue than the teeth--sessionable and sippable...TASTE: a warm oven of caramelized bread; secondary flavors of butter, lemon zest and a mad mix of (to me) undiscernable hops... OVERALL: this beer moves from intriguing to pedestrian, with a mixture of attractive flowery hops initiating a more mellow, subdued experience--the lightness makes this a sessionable destination, but as a stand-alone, not quite Sierra’ pale ale...

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Piney notes and a healthy malty sweet hit on the tongue. A lingering bitterness that adds to the supposed Christmas warmth thang. Not bad.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 Nose seems like homebrew wort, don’t detect the spices. Bright tint to the brown orange, funky, thick head, retention, leaving a nice lace. Mouthfeel is creamy and simple - I like it it, nice balance, though not much going on.
After a few more bottles decided not for me.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
BOTTLE. Poured a muddy orange/brown with thin beige head. Caramel, Orange & spices on the nose. Citrus zest and spices up front with a caramel malt back end with lingering bitterness. Palate was thick up front but seemed to disappear very quickly?

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
I have to say that my initial impression was one of disappointment as it was thinner, lets gutsy and not as spellbinding as I was initially expecting. I took about half an hour to slowly sip away at this beer and am satisfied in my summation that this beer isn’t too bad, but won’t set any records. Hazy red mahogany with a rocky cream coloured head. Aromas of stewed stonefruit, reddish malts and some redwood bark. The flavours are similar with mature bitterness and some residual sweetness as well. It still wasn’t as memorable as I was hoping, but I paid a lot for this beer and it has come from a long way away.
