FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 31, 2009 Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a black color with a medium sized dark brown head. The aroma was dry, bitter and roasty with notes of coffee and floral hops. The flavor was dryish, roasty, toasty and a touch malty with notes of chocolate, coffee and strong floral hops. The finish was long, roasty and hoppy. Medium body. Solid. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Jun 8, 2009 Black with a thick mocha head that leaves plenty of lacing. Unfortunately, rest did not quite live up to the appearance. Aromas of smokiness, gouda, and a slight chocolate. The smokiness was even more apparent in the taste and overwhelmed the other flavors. Thin mouthfeel. Can’t help wondering if this batch was a little off, as think that the gouda/lactic I smelled could be an indication. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 20, 2009 JLS: called Black Lager at DRE. Pours deep blackish and turbid with brown head. Nose is dark malt, rich chocolate, nuts. Tastes thick, rich, smooth, creamy, with dark malt, dark choc, backup hops, and slight nuts, molasses, and rauch. Very complex, very well balanced, and very damned good! I’ll be growlering this tomorrow for the holiday. BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA May 5, 2009 Pint – Eastside Club Tavern - Olympia, WA
