Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 11, 2006 Light amber with a slight haze. The head is white and small, though an honest white sheet remains. Floral/citrus hop nose has a strong yeasty component that leaves softly buttery and dried banana notes that fit more or less. Tart and juicy character contrasts with the hops prime presence. Finishes herbal and green, foresty and gummy. Hard to define the malts in this one, seemingly faded between the other ingredients, yet felt well, kinda reminiscent of Pacman induced sourdough and spent grains. Supportive carbonation fits well, adequate medium body. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 11, 2006 Poured a slight orange-brown color, much darker than the usual pale ale color. The head was decent and lacing pretty good. The aroma was hoppy with caramel malts. The caramel malts were stronger than usual for a pale ale. The hopping was of pine and light citrus and herbal qualities. The mouthfeel was moderate for the style, very drinkable overall. Again, the caramel was overplayed for the style, but good overall. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jun 3, 2006 22oz bottle: Pale, hazy copper-colored body with a medium white head that sticks. The aroma is lightly sweet grains, light malt, very mild diacetyl, grapefruit, light floral hops. The taste is mildly sweet grains, light malts, again very mild diactyl (which works nicely with the flavors), then a ton of bitterness comes from the hops, showing grapefruit, earthy hops, floral qualities, dried grass, melon. Finishes with extended hop bitterness, grapefruit, and some light bread notes. Medium bodied, medium carbonated. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jun 3, 2006 (22oz bottle) Lightly hazed golden body. Aroma is medium sweet, floral/grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet, floral, some grapefruit, melon, earthy, light berry. Light-medium body. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 13, 2006 bottle pours out kind of goldish copper, Has a nice off white head. once again a good beer from the folks at ROGUE jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Mar 16, 2006 From a distinctive 22 oz. Rogue brown bomber bottle with a blurb about the APA on the side of bottle. Made a good appearance, poured a copper hued golden with a large foamy, bubbly head off-white head that reduced to a sticky, thin bubbly lacing, medium carbonation. Had a nice Amarillo citric aroma, with a balancing caramel maltiness, and of course, the Pacman yeastiness. A smooth, chewy medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Caramel malty with a little fruitiness, a citric bitterness, a touch of earthiness and a dry citric finish.
Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Mar 5, 2006 Back on whatever date it was in November 2005, I attended a little beer tasting where no less than 43 beers were offered. All quality stuff that isn’t available to those of us in the Sunshine State. This is review 1 of 43. I hope I can keep up with my notes because my handwriting goes to pot after sample number 20 or so. I digress. Rogue Seahorse Pale Ale led off the evening. Gold with a moderate head. Hey, surprisingly like Yellow Snow! Starts with the sweetness of golden raisins. Slightly hoppy but has a thin body with a metallic resonance along the fringes of my tongue. Ah, so we’re going to start light and progress gradually into the dark stuff. I’m already salivating. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Mar 2, 2006 Pours a murky golden orange color. Aromas of citrus hops, caramel malts. Flavor is bitter and hoppy with a touch of pepper/grapefruit with sweet malt.
