COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sesquicentennial Ale, dedicated to Oregon: The State of Beer, was designed by Rogue brewmaster John Maier to showcase Oregon-grown ingredients. The initial brew features 5 ingredients: Two-row and Munich malts - a portion of which were grown in Oregon’s Klamath Basin - Willamette hops from Rogue Farms’ hop yard in Independence, Rogue’s proprietary PacMan yeast from Hood River and free range coastal water. Sesquicentennial Ale is brewed at Rogue’s Newport brewery. Even the bottles are from Oregon, manufactured at Owens-Illinois’ Portland plant and serigraphed at TriS in Tualatin. “With Rogue’s deep roots in the Oregon brewing community, their years of award-winning beers, history of charitable giving and new foray into growing their own malting barley and hops, they were the natural choice to brew Oregon’s sesquicentennial beer,” said Melisa McDonald, Executive Director of Oregon 150.In the fall, Rogue will brew another batch of Sesquicentennial Ale using malting barley from Rogue Farms’ barley ranch in Tygh Valley, making it the first all-Oregon ingredient artisan beer.

Bottle:   Dirty caramel, rather thick and hazy, moderate dudsy off-white head, sparce lacing.   Slight aroma of overcooked vegetable.   Otherwise malty with a bit of dank basement.   Faded hop flavors immediately up front.   Reminds me of a Pale Ale that has gone past its prime.   Seems a bit muddled to be an Amber Ale.   Not enough malty goodness.   Maybe I sat on this too long, but all I am getting is a faded hop flavor and slight overcooked vegetable.   Thin to moderate body and mouthfeel.   Low carbonation, yet somewhat smooth.   Very boring, and certainly not hoppy enough for more Rogue beers.   Hmmm...

Bottle: hazy orange color with a thin white head. The nose is grassy with lemon and orange, light pine and smooth fruity maltiness. The flavor is a little sweet and very malty, the hops present but not overly bitter. Light fruitiness in the finish from the yeast. Good and balanced.

Very cool bottle. Not a complex flavor bomb of a beer just a very solid amber/pale to me. Some hop notes and malt mixed in. An Oregon ingredient session beer in my book.

dark murky gold, dense offwhite head fades quickly. great, strong aroma of pine. strongly bitter taste, pine hops, balanced with significant roast malt. dries the mouth, but taste does not linger. heavy body.

Rogue *EUGENE* Sesquicentennial Ale. Pours a cloudy, unfiltered muted, golden amber color... and fronts a superbly frothy and bubbly cream-colored head to boot! Insane lacing: 1/4" of foam sticks to the sides of the glass. Aroma is a little spicy and sour, deliciously sweet and malty with a touch of yeast. Mouth feel is great, easy and inviting... smooth! Flavor is mild, but well done. Touch of yeast on the palate as well. Light spice on the finish with that signature unfiltered experience. Well done, guys. I don’t favor ambers, but this one hits in all the right places.

Hazy amber with average off-white head. Aroma is of malt and caramel. Taste is of malt, light hops, and fruit.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber with an orange-tinted frothy head that leaves thick lace. Aroma is sweet toffee and tangerine. Softer mouthfeel, flavours of toffee, citrus, and a little conifer. Nicely balanced with a medium bitter finish.

Bottle from Rogue’s Public Ale House San Francisco: I was pretty pissed when the employees would not let me look at their bottle selection, so I told the bar tender to give me whatever was new from Rogue. It was the day after St.Patrick’s day and they had to hide all of their bottles in the basement in fear of being robbed by the mobs of drunks you see? Anyways, this was the only bottle the bartender could think of because he was drinking on the job and on another note this guy looked exactly like the Gaslamp Killer, I wish I took a picture to prove it to friends. Poured a clear and refined golden yellow with a decent layer of foam for a head. Aroma was mild with traces of west coast hops and Rogue’s signature pac-man yeast. The palate was clean and refreshing and allowed me to take large gulps of the liquid without requiring me to do a lot of thinking of what flavor consisted of. To put it simply, the flavor was a balance between grassy malt and a minimal amount of bitterness from the hops.
