Deep black brown, mocha coffee coloured head, medium lasting. Lovely rich intense nose - coffee, chocolate, roasted notes, soy and oats, really good. Flavour follows the nose, more lush coffee, roast, almost burnt malt, followed by a big hop bite. Slightly lively carbonation, long, long finish - chocolate sweetness, liquorice, offset by heavy hop bitterness which parches the tongue. Really impressive this.

Roasted character (coffee/cocoa), with some sweetness. some bread flavor, too--plus Cascade citrus (not as much in the aroma). Sweetish at first, with a dry, roasty finish.

Split a 22 ounce bomber with Ed at the Bayou. This is a great beer, but I really enjoy the bitter chocolate and coffee finish. There is a strong caramel character in the middle of the taste that detracts from the flavors I enjoy. Overall a solid stout.

My first Oatmeal stout, and what a ripper! Do all oatmeal stouts taste this good? Appearance is stout with the added bonus that this beer has some of the most beautiful, intricate lacing I’ve seen. Beautiful plumage! And the taste! Honestly, I can’t pick out the oatmeal, but all the flavours of this beer just seem to get sucked into my tastebuds like there has been a drought or something. Very nice.

On tap at Pete's. A black pour with a frothy, retentive light brown head. Good lacing. Aromas of sugary malt and coffee. Taste is oatmeal, espresso, and a semisweet chocolate finish. A well balanced, albeit bitter stout.

Pours black with a lively, thick, tan head with some lacing after a sip. Syrupy sweet, roasty nose. Creamy and smooth entry with a malty mouthfeel followed by a dark chocolate, roasted nut, somewhat bitter dark roast coffee finish. Where is the vanilla ice cream when I need it?

Draft at Yardhouse in Boca Raton. Poured into an American pint glass. Jet black, opaque with a thick two-finger off-white head. Almost looked like it was on nitro but it wasn’t. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. The taste wasn’t as complex as I expected but very good overall. The notes of chocolate, roasted malts, slight coffee and bread came through nicely. The mouth was smooth and the after was slightly bitter and dry. Very good job though.

Bouteille 650ml. (2006)
