Originally rated on 8/8/08.A dark black body that doesnt let any light though, a thin dark tan cap, that left minimal lacing. Aromas a plenty- oak, mocha, chocolate, and roasted nuts. All those also come through in the taste as well as oats,a nd a little smoke, with a nice bitter bite at the end. Creamy and smooth, excellent balance with this stout.

330ml bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a deep black color forming a medium creamy tan head with medum retention and lots of lingering lacings left in the glass. Strong notes of dark chocolate, coffee and mainly roasted malts in the nose. Sligtly sweet upfront taste. Strong notes of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Licorice and grass. Good bitterness. Grassy hops profile. Medium to heavy body. Medium carbonaton. Dark chocolate and roasted malts in the aftertaste. Persistent. Good drinkability. Classic Oatmeal Stout.

Large bottle ! who the hell can really appreciate the nuances in a little 355ml bottle? . I’ve not drunk this beer in ten years and liked it then ,but neglected to write a bunch of crap down for dissection! I approach US lower boost Stouts with mild unease as too many of them in my experience are a boxing match of roast and rich hops .... this beer isn’t like that . nice balance offered . roast bitter malt dryness , coffee notes are rich enough ...only subtle oat textures. the hoppy vibes are floral but relaxed , this ain’t trying to be a Black IPA . huuge ass beiged head rests greatly over brooding blackness .... I drank the second half of the bottle fast as hell!

Bottle to shaker glass, pours near black. Two finger pillow dark tan head. Nice lacing with small cap retention. Aroma of coffee. Taste is medium sweet, lightly bitter. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes long. Tasting notes of oats, coffee, dark chocolate, dark roasted barley and earth. Simple and on the spot, text book oatmeal stout. Very good.

Bottle from Bottle Baron. Deep brown/black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of shoe polish, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, digestive biscuits and earth. Flavour of orange, ash, backcurrant and cigar. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Light fizz. A classy beer that packs a lot of complexity into 6.0% ABV. Straddles the line between Stout and Black IPA.
