Rogue’s Shakespeare Stout is ebony in color, a rich creamy head and a mellow chocolate aftertaste. It is made from Northwest Harrington, Crystal, and Chocolate malts, roasted barley and rolled oats, along with Cascade hop.

Simply excellent. A nice black color with a dark tan head and a thin lace. Thick roasty aroma with a very nicely balanced roasted barley flavor and a light chocolate finish. one of the best stout’s I’ve had yet.

Rogue is an excellent stout but I certainly wouldn’t call it a sweet stout.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2003 Delicious on tap and delicious in the bottle. Aroma is roasty with a little vanilla. Opaque, rich, and flavorful. Roasted barley shines in the flavor with hints of dark chocolate and bitterness. Excellent!

Carmel, toffee, hoppyness in the nose. Smells fresh like from the local brewpub. Big, brown, thick head. Coffee-like in apperance. Coco bitterness, some carmel flavors with a slight burnt flavor in the end. More carbonated than most stouts. This is a truly beautiful beer.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2004 2002 bottle Great amount of hops and balanced just right with the coffee taste. One of the better stouts produced in America and definitely worth a try. Complex and dry. Good barley taste, not too sweet for a sweet stout. 2004 bomber. Wow. that was one of the first beers I rated and without going in to too much lame detail, I was just about spot on for the rating I would give it now. Dry coffee flavored palate, a bit of chalky like texture. Quite roasty and complex with plenty of malts. The cascades are apparent but not overly so. A very dry chocolatey finish. Good stuff tending much on the dry side.

Chocolate, coffee, liquorice aroma. Black as coal, thick cappuccino head. Strong coffee and bitter chocolate flavour. Oily, in keeping with the flavours, bitter, with a rich texture. Terrific.

Dark, smooth pour with a nice dark tan head. Aroma a tad weak, but present. Flavor includes a nice smoky/chocolate taste with a touch of bitterness. Very nice stout that is worth trying again.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2014 From the bottle:
Shall I compare thee to a lovely winter’s night? You are much more warming and suave... Shall I compare thee to a pint o’Guiness? God, your sappy hops and molasse bitterness overwhelm her... Shall I compare thee to a St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout? Hmmm…Maybe so!!… Just bring me one more bottle of each!

On tap (nitroed) at Rogue Ales Public House in San Francisco:
This was a huge disappointment, considering the quality of the bottled version. The nitrogen just took so much space in the flavor profile, it was pathetic. The oatmeal pretty much disappeared and the only thing left was coffee, caramel and roasted bitterness. 3.4/5
