Rogueís Shakespeare Stout is ebony in color, a rich creamy head and a mellow chocolate aftertaste. It is made from Northwest Harrington, Crystal, and Chocolate malts, roasted barley and rolled oats, along with Cascade hop.

I am a big fan of the stouts, but not so much THIS stout. This is the second stout where the aftertaste ruined it for me. Both instances, i tasted a fishy flavor in the aftertaste, NOT my cup of tea. BTW, the other is a Hammerhead Stout at a local brewpub. The color of this Rogue is very dark, basically black. Initial flavor is nice, but not special. As the beer warmed, the aftertaste poked itís head out. This really is nít a íbadí beer, it just isnít anything gret IMHO.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2005 Re-rated from an aged bottle (approx. 3 years old). Deep black body with a creamy brown head. Inviting aroma of bittersweet cocoa and roasted coffee. Full mouthfeel. Luscious flavour of sweet malts, chocolate and smoky licorice. The hops had mellowed a bit with age, but were still there in the finish. Either this beer improved with age, or my tastes have changed - either way, Iím rating it higher this time.

Original rating (9/25/2002): Near perfect appearance, and a great aroma. The chocolate and coffee notes are balanced well, but the hoppiness can be a bit off-putting if youíre not expecting it. Not the best stout around, but itís pretty damn good. 8/5/7/4/16

The hops takes away from the chocolatey sweetness. Leaves a bit of a burnt tastebud effect due to the cascade hops and very dry roasted barley. Drinkable, but nothing to get excited about.

Nice but a little too hoppy for a stout. One of few Rogues I like. Bottled as Brown Bear beer here in Japan from Ezo Beer.

Not as good as I expected. This was black in color with a dark tan head. Tasted burnt and hoppy. I will have to try this again and rerate.

Incredible stout--lots of body and a great hop presence. The chocolate malts come through strong and are very pleasant. A little coffee too. I would love to drink more of this great, thick and rich stout.

Strong on the hops for a Stout, flavours of chocolate , bitter, and coffee .Prefer the Sam Smith, but this is a good choice too.

I have always thought this beer to be overrated. Itís a decent stout with a great aroma, itís just not that easy to drink. A tad to hoppy of a stout for my tastes.

Nothing special here. Simple, bitter stout with an aroma and flavor dominated by roasted barley. Not very complex, not very flavorful, and not very memorable.

Iím going off memory here. Not one of my favorite stouts. Bitter and not as sweet when compared to my favorite, Sam Smiths Imperial Stout.
