4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Nearly perfect sweet stout. The head is really bitter though...so watch out if you quaff early! Still, a remarkable stout!

a light dry hop finish. Very good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 6, 2003 Good stout, not the best. The bubbles are perfectly coarse; the head lingers, but not too long, with a subtle laciness. The beer is almost completely opaque. I noticed aromas of roasted malt, alcohol, and the light presence of Cascade hops. The beer has a thick, silky body, but with a surprisingly dry, balanced finish. I found the flavors to be excellently balanced between bitter astringence and a sweet, chocolatey roastiness. The palate became more bitter and smoky as I progressed through the 22-ounce bottle. The first half of the beer was nearly perfect, but the second half was clearly unbalanced toward bitterness, but not as severely as the Saint Rogue Red I had yesterday. P.S.: I can't believe this is called a 'Sweet Stout'!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This was a great stout, not too sweet or bitter. The mouthfeel is great. The chocolate really comes through when this warms up.

I decided to try this stout due to the overwhelming praise it receives here. I was not disappointed! An excellent blend of chocolate and coffee flavors makes this a pleasureful beer to drink. The aroma is unbelievable! A very strong and distinct aroma of sweet chocolate. I opened a bottle of this stout in my house and could still smell traces of it the next day! From what I could tell, the color is jet black. I haven’t had many stouts but this one tops my list so far!

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2003 My favorite stout of all time. Chocolaty brown head, very distinct. Extremely dark beer, but still slightly brown. First taste is chocolate, then coffee. Eventual aftertaste is almost a spicy beef jerky. Sounds odd, but it is excellent. Very complex flavor, distinct flavor sets it apart from others. Quite strong but still drinkable large quantities.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had one of those large bottles. Ink-black, lovely tan head. A little too bubbly. Head didn’t stick around as long as I’d like. Superior texture. I like the ample roasty chocolate flavor and bitey aftertaste. Solid all-around. My 2nd favorite stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A very well done stout with a strong chocalate taste with a slightly bitter sweet finish but worth the money to try again and again
