Pours black with a thick beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and some aromatic hops, quite unusual for a stout. Taste is similar, lots of roasted flavors. Good dry finish, medium bitterness.

Pour pitch black with a frothy head. Rich note of roasted malt mixed with a hint of hop in aroma. Smooth, lingering mid bitterness finish. A well balanced stout if not a bit too light.

Teku/nonic glass. Pitch black with big, mocca, long lasting head. Good lacing. Medium roasted grains aroma character (partly coffee-like aromas), medium fruity aromas - rasins, plums. Almostly none hop aroma, light oatmeal aroma. Mainly you can smell dark fruits mentioned above, in the second place roasted grains with dominant coffee aroma, than dark chocolate. Medium sweet taste. Earthy and grainy steel oat flavour. Strong character of roasted malts. Sometimes it tastes like coffee with cream or milk. In the end the coffee flavor is really dominant. Low bitterness somewhere in the end. Aftertaste is mild coffee-bitter. Medium-full body, silky and very smooth, almost light oily. Medium carbonation. Finishing is bitter and dry.

On tap poured into an 8oz shaker. A big coffee aroma with a chocolate touch is notable right from the start. Underneath that, there’s a grain and/or oat, dry aroma with a bit of pine. The color is a rich, syrupy, near opaque brown - black topped by a light, micro bubble, light brown head. A okay ring is retained with a very light, wispy layer. No lace is left on this one. The taste is a medium - high sweetness with a medium bitter quality near the end. The syrupy, viscous texture has very little, flat carbonation with a big, full malt body. The finish is a combination of dark chocolate, oats and grains, and leftover brewed coffee with maybe even a bit of a nuttiness. The aftertaste is burnt toast and oats with chocolate syrup; it’s also a bit resinous.

Bottle from the Hunger Mountain Coop in Vermont. Pours a real dark brown colour with hardly any highlights. Mocha brown coloured head, great retention and sticky lacing. Roasted malt aromas with lots of fruity notes from the malt. Hints of coffee, also found in the taste a little more. Takes over the fruitiness of the malt. Coffee lingers in the after taste with a little dryness from the hops, creating some mild bitterness. A nice beer but seems to me more like a regular porter than an oatmeal stout. Missing the creaminess and sweetness of one. Love Rogue, but not impressed with this one.
