3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. The aroma was filled with cereal and a slight malt/coffee tinge at the finish. The pour was a dark black with a decent head for a stout, tan as expected, that stuck around for a bit before dissolving to a film, and once settled, I found the appearance to be a pitch black, even when tilting toward the light, this sucker didn’t give on the edges, still pitch black.
The palate was a heavy, thick body with a creamy texture that sat on the tongue with a pleasing frothiness. It gave me a little tingle as it finished. The taste was a med-heavy malty cereal at first that faded to a light bitter on the tongue with a medium bitter creeping up the nasal passage, a tasty bitter coffee/oaty aftertaste.
Overall, if I hit the lottery - thus, having extra cash as well as being able to retire early - I’d drink this sucker for breakfast every morning.

355 ml bottle, labelled as Brown Bear Beer and brewed for Ezo Beer in Sapporo. No label as such, all information printed straight on the bottle. Pours dark brown, close to black. Small brownish head that fades soon. Aroma is very promising - full of malty roastiness, some sweet dark fruits and chocolate. For some reason this aroma feels familiar - and it feels as this should be sweet. Right, this aroma reminds me some barleywines I have had. Taste is not sweet and body a bit lighter than I expected from the aroma. First comes the carbonation together with some sweet fruity notes and coffee. Later hops come to the front and some bitter chocolate and dry roasted malts remain in my mouth for minutes. Quite a treat, this one.

Really nice coffee-chocolate taste. Pours dark with a small head. Really wished, after the fact, I would have had this with the T-bone waiting for me in the fridge!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The name says it all, it’s a dark roasted stout beer with the grainy taste of oat. Nice, but not very special.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee, light char, oats, toast, caramel, dark bread, floral, and roasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and oat notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, caramel, light char, oats, dark bread, floral, and roasted earthiness. Light earthy/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, caramel, light char, oats, dark bread, floral, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and oat flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent oatmeal stout! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and oat flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz. bomber. Finally getting around to this one! It pours a very dark brown with a brown head. The aroma is sweet chocolate and coffee with some pumpernickel bread. The flavor is nice with a good balance of dark chocolate, coffee and floral hop flavor and bitterness in the finish. The body is about average for the style and ABV. Pleasant roasty, floral finish. Very good stout, but a bit overpriced for what it is.
