Rogue’s Shakespeare Stout is ebony in color, a rich creamy head and a mellow chocolate aftertaste. It is made from Northwest Harrington, Crystal, and Chocolate malts, roasted barley and rolled oats, along with Cascade hop.

Bottle (650ml). Poured extremely dark brown (virtually black) with a dense, tanned, frothy head which lasted well. Aroma was of tropical hops with pineapple rings, ripe apricots, roasted hazelnuts, new leather and hints of carob chocolate. Flavor was somewhat similar to aroma with a moderate tropical hop bitterness with nectarines, caramel malts, toast, black coffee and a dry earthy finish with some light hop resins. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry hoppy mouthfeel, slick texture and a great length finish.

Very dark pour from the bomber almost black with a small head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel and some roasted malts. Taste has some smokiness with some tropical dark fruits and cocoa. Smooth finish.

there is some nice chocolate tones in the nose and flavor, but they go away a bit with the bitter hoppy mouthfeel and finish. Best stout in the world (as Rogue states)? Not really, but it’s a solid complex beer."

Bottle (12oz $2.30): Pours nearly black with nice tan head. Some oatmeal and a little chocolate in the taste followed by quite a bit of bitterness that lingers. I prefer less bitterness in a stout but still nice.
