3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The beer has got a very dark, opaque brown body, with a rich brown head. Wonderful lacing and impressive head retention. A truly beautiful stout!
A pronounced earthy hoppiness really fights for the main role in the aroma. However, the strong roasted malt profile is still the dominant. Dark chocolate and coffee, with some toasted bread notes.
The taste is kind of coarse at first, with a very pronounced bitterness and coffee notes. However, after a few moments, it becomes much smooth and a bit more complex. It has a very rich roasted malt profile, with almost tobacco-like notes. Dark chocolate, espresso, a bit of licorice, and oatmeal. The finish is bitter and malty. As the beer warms up, you may get some nice sweetness and a smoother finish. Tasty, yet very roasty, so not necessarily a beer for all.
Medium-bodied. Some carbonation can be felt at first. No real feel of alcohol. Not the most pleasant mouthfeel, yet it is quite alright.
For such a hoppy and bitter stout, this goes down very well. I would not call this a session stout, but this is certainly very drinkable nonetheless.

Bottle: Jet black, no color, topped with a huge, dark-tan head made of fine bubbles that lasts for seemingly days; chunky lacing left behind. Aroma full of sweetness & roasted grains... small dose of ashy, leafy hops bite the nostrils. Light cocoa powder, smooth cut oats, & a current of creamy sweetness that ties everything together. Deep, robust flavor of heavily roasted malts, nuts, wood, bittersweet cocoa nibs & cocoa powder, & a hint of bitter espresso bean on the very back end. Strong hop presence; earthy, leafy, mildly floral, acting as a good malt offset. Nice creaminess from the oats, which are flavorful in the aftertaste. Lasting, lightly hop-bitter, earthy-cocoa finish. Might be the best beer I’ve had from Rogue.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein schwarzes Bier mit schöner bräunlichen Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, Schokolade. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, angenehm cremig, schokoladig, erdig.

On draft at the icelandic beer festival. Aroma of some coffee and oatmeal. Lacked more character and the body was too light.

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brown with a nice foamy off-white head. The aroma is a combination of oats and dark chocolate, which comes off less appealing than it sounds, unfortunately. Otherwise the beer is fantastic. Has a nice mix of sweet malts, oatmeal, chocolate, and even a touch of bitterness in the taste. Goes down smooth and has an excellent full body feel.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark black-brown with a creamy espresso mocha head that fades to a nice uneven coating that leaves wet legs. Aroma is oatmeal, toasted malts and chocolate with a sense of dry hops. Taste is a bit tangy - oatmeal again, with chocolate roasted malty goodness and some hop/burnt coffee bitterness that lingers. Quite carbonated and active on the palate - crisp for a stout. A classic oatmeal stout, but a bit shallow and perhaps a bit too bitter.
