3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The beer has got a very dark, opaque brown body, with a rich brown head. Wonderful lacing and impressive head retention. A truly beautiful stout!
A pronounced earthy hoppiness really fights for the main role in the aroma. However, the strong roasted malt profile is still the dominant. Dark chocolate and coffee, with some toasted bread notes.
The taste is kind of coarse at first, with a very pronounced bitterness and coffee notes. However, after a few moments, it becomes much smooth and a bit more complex. It has a very rich roasted malt profile, with almost tobacco-like notes. Dark chocolate, espresso, a bit of licorice, and oatmeal. The finish is bitter and malty. As the beer warms up, you may get some nice sweetness and a smoother finish. Tasty, yet very roasty, so not necessarily a beer for all.
Medium-bodied. Some carbonation can be felt at first. No real feel of alcohol. Not the most pleasant mouthfeel, yet it is quite alright.
For such a hoppy and bitter stout, this goes down very well. I would not call this a session stout, but this is certainly very drinkable nonetheless.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
35,5 cl bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured black as a moonless night with a three finger mocha tan head. Wonderful aroma of: dark chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruit, vanilla, licorice, roasted coffee beans, caramel. Taste: dark chocolate, vanilla, dark roasted espresso beans, burnt toffee, dark fruit, licorice, hoppy bitterness, roasted nuts, caramel, haagse hopjes (Dutch caramel/coffee treats), marshmallows, whole wheat currant bread, raisins. Thick & bready roasted mouthfeel. Oatmeal gives the beer its extra ’chunk’. Medium to full body with a very roasted bittersweet finish. Absolutely delicious stout.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This was an introductory stout for me, several years ago when I first started enjoying beers. At first, it was something similar to my normal go to at the time. Now, it’s a classic that I will always remember as one of the beers that really got me into the craft. It’s cool to see such an old school stout that has remained the same for so long, and see it stand up to all the great stouts that come and go whole it lives on. I don’t know how I never rated this before, but I’m glad I didnt. I feel like I’m ready to give it the proper recognition it deserves. Nitro pour at the Collective. Cola black pour with an infinite tan cream cap. Toasty malt aroma provides the invitation. Flavor is a roasted malt, sweetened by a rich milk chocolate and subtle dryness. Oat like sweetness, as expected. Model beer to be presented on nitro. I still think they rule the chocolate in beer world. I can’t quite call this up to the Double Chocolate curve, but this beer is a solid stout that will always be there for you. This stout is timeless.
