Medium body, medium bitterness at first with harsh bitterness later. Had definite chocolate and coffee overtones. Head was medium thick and beer was nearly opaque when help up to a light. would have scored higher but aftertast was not as pleasant as, say, the rogue chocolate stout...had 2 other stouts to compare directly with during this tasting. shawnm213 (1035), South Bend, Indiana, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 20, 2009 Black with a thick tan head. Nose is roasted malt and light hops, kind of weak though. Flavor is kind of basic roasted malt and chocolate. Slight hoppy bitter aftertaste along with the roasted coffee finish. Overall, kind of disappointing. GranvilleTim (531), Granville, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 12, 2009 One of the first Rogues I have ever had so it was good to find a bottle to rate it. The pour was a dark black with a rich brown head. The aroma came out as I was pouring it- hints of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and sweetness, almost fruity. Taste was great- started with the roasted malt, sweetness, coffee, some bitterness, and hints of chocolate. Just as good or maybe better than I remembered it. Hints of choc and coffee, slightly sweet. Great bold texture on the palate. Would recommend to anyone. blklab2007 (987), Connecticut, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2009 bottle poured a chestnut brown color with a nice frothy light brown head but no retention. Aroma has roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and some nuts. flavor has a nice roast, chocolate malt, coffee, and some low bitterness. a touch of hops pokes through and after reading the ingredients I can see the oats in there. nice hearty session level that is easy to put down.
