a very nice drinkable stout, creamy mouthfeel and pleasant chocolatey bitter finish. aroma is weird - cascade in a stout I something I will never really be into - but at least here it’s a lighter session stout, which means it’s not used to excess like in the rogue imperial, and you can almost pretend it’s an apa once your mouth gets used to the roast. fairly tame roast flavours make this easy to do. still, a stout that tastes like a pnw stout should. grapefruit and chocolate.

BIg chocolate aroma mixed with floral hops. Pours pure black with a thick, rocky brown head. Loses some points because the head dissipates a little too quickly for a stout. Tastes of bitter hops with chocolate and roasted malts. A bit thin on the palate but the carbonation is pleasant. Lingering chocolate and bitter finish. This is a pretty damn good stout but it leaves a bit of room for improvement.

Bottled at Cardinal, Stavanger.Pour thick and pitch black with a large fluffy tan head that looks great. Great body with a robust deep chocolate and coffee aroma that tantalises the nose. Tastes as good as it looks with a nice burnt flavour and long aftertaste.

Aroma: Rasins, chocolate, coffee. Appearance: almost black with a nice head that fades too quickly but does leave a nice lacing. Taste: Dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, and a touch of hops. Palate: Medium, creamy, soft carbonation, short finish. Overall: It’s a good beer that is very drinkable but it’s not "great" in any way.

22 oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pour was opaque with three fingers of muddy tan head; there was excellent lacing with the brew as well. Nose is chocolate, earth, roasted malt, and just a touch of hops. Taste was very much the same, only the earth and hops were a bit more pronounced. While not my favorite in any regard, this is a very strong offering from rogue, and one I could enjoy again.

^attractive ^drinkable session stout.
i love this beer after a vigorous pour to release some of the co2, and a little time to warm up too, as the burnt-citrus-seed character of the cascades seems to fade out and a brighter fruitiness emerges as it warms.

No doubt this is a great stout and one of my favorites. But, after some recent revelatory experiences, I have to say it’s a fairly simple stout, just done well. There isn’t anything that pops out but it’s very well rounded and drinkable.

Opaque oil black with 1.5" of dimpled tan head. Aroma is roasty with coffee, cocoa, and a bit of graham cracker. Taste is firmly bittered with prominent hop notes in addition to the chocolate and coffee from the aroma. $6/22oz
