Bottle... Poured black with a huge brown head, kept a nice steady head throughout the pint. definitely some barley-malt on the nose, very toasty and nutty. Not as silky as I would like for a stout, but still enjoyable feeling in the mouth. You kind of get everything all at once with this one, and than you can start to dissect the flavors after you swallow. It was well hopped, but you get chocolate, oats, roasted barley and malt, and smokiness that’s amazing. A nice juxtapose of sweet and bitter.

Pours a murky black from the bomber with a firm brown head that leaves plenty of lacing. Loaded with cocoa and malts on the nose with notes of milk cocoa, hops, barley, and oatmeal in the flavor. Flavorful, but not particularly balanced or ambitious.

Bottle (in NZ) courtesy of yalnikim, pours black with a foamy brown head. A floral hop aroma with a hint of molasses in the malt. The roasted malt palate is a bit grainy, with some coffee flavour. The finish is, dare I say it, a little thin and metallic. Still good, but I don’t quite see it as high as the ratings here indicate.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 20 Sep 2008) Black colour with firm, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with lots of dark chocolate and notes of dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, coffee, dark rye bread and a dry cocoa bitterness in the finish. Medium to full body. Smooth, mellow mouthfeel. Lovely balance. Great beer!

Pours opaque black with thick creamy tan head. Aromas of malt, chocolate and coffee. Tastes of chocolate malt, coffee, oats with a chocolate and flowery hops finish . Thick, full mouthfeel. This is one of the very best stouts.
