jimbowood (737), Athens, Georgia, USA Dec 11, 2005 Draft @ Summit’s in Atlanta under the alias of "Black Brutal". Looks like a stout, smells like an IPA, and tastes like a great mix of the two with a lean towards the hops. This is one of the better and more interesting beers that I’ve had in awhile, but I would not call it a schwarzbier. Look for this one.
hopson (499), Williamsville, New York, USA Mar 14, 2007 tap- pizza plant under black brutal bitter, This beer is perfect for me because I really love IPA’s and I love porters. This appears to be the love child of both. Black as night, smells of hops, tastes of espresso and terrific pine-like hops. This company never disappoints. Svesse (1818), Hässelby, Sweden May 14, 2006 Updated: May 16, 2006(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Colour is very dark brown, almost black, with disappearing off-white head. Surprising nose, expecting loads of roasted malt, but is initially met by loads of fresh hops, some chocolate and after a while notes of raw fish and coriander, maybe some asian fish sauce and even some teriyaki sauce. Strange but amazing. Taste is roasted, with chocolate and fresh hops. Surprisingly dry, full bodied with a long, hoppy finish. Alcohol is well hidden. (Is this really a schwarzbier? It looks like a stout or porter, smells like an IPA and tastes like ... well, I’m not sure. Let’s just skip the categorization and be content with the feeling of a seriously strange, but amazing beer). aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Sep 1, 2003 Bottle. I just have to point out first that I drank beers called "Head Cracker" and "Skullsplitter" in the same month. This one is brown and transluscent with a huge head. It tastes like a typical west coast IPA...good stuff, but I honestly have no idea how this is supposed to be a Schwarz. beerguy101 (3488), Newark, California, USA Aug 1, 2003 Dark black color. Medium head. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee and a touch of citrus. An “imperial” schwarzbier. Malts are very roasted and really fruity. Hops are a very spicy and very bitter. Nicely balanced. Touch of an alcohol bite. Roasted malts with hints of chocolate. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, with a touch of alcohol.
