corby112 (670), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 3, 2009 Pours a hazy orange/amber color with a 1.5 finger foamy yellowish beige head that quickly fizzles away into a lasting ring. Minimal lacing.
Smoked malt aroma with hints of butane, charcoal, bacon, and a surprisingly strong citrus hop presence.
Resinous chewy mouthfeel with a very roasted smoked malt flavor with hints of charcoal, campfire ash, barbecued bacon and butane as well as a crisp dry bitter citrus hop presence. The citrus hops sweeten things up a bit and provide an interesting balance to the smokey flavor. Travlr (694), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 31, 2009 Watery and cloudy brown with rapidly disappearing head. Aroma of frying bacon. Taste is gritty, smoky but a bit thin on body. Brief aftertaste of campfire. Interesting. gyllenbock (234), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 16, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy, dark brown color with a medium-sized fluffy foam. Naturally, the beer smelled smoke, especially wood and smoked ham.
The flavor was slightly sweet, smoky. The smokiness was fairly mild with hints of smoked ham, bacon and peppers. The feeling of the liquid was quite dry, the body was medium. daknole (2800), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 8, 2009 Bottle. Amber pour. Small head. Aroma of ham, smoked malt, caramel, and a hint of lemony tartness. Flavor is a nice combo of lemon, ham, smoked malt and caramel. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 23, 2009 Bottle, from back log. A definite smokey aroma and taste which is not mu favorite thing to have but it was pulled off decent. Some malty bitterness added to the flavor. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Sep 22, 2009 On tap at brewery. Pours a deep honey amber with no head and no lace. Aroma primarily of smoke with some caramel underneath. Tastes of smoked malt, saltiness and caramel. 4 oz was even a bit too much. Frovigalning (379), , Sweden Sep 13, 2009 It poured a hazy dark golden liquid with a small foam. It had a smell of bacon and smoked ham. It had a smooth, salty and fat mouthfeel. A taste of smoke, bacon and smoked ham. Beerlando (2280), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2009 Bomber. The pour yields a moderately hazy, dark amber colored body. A small, foamy, off-white head leaves virtually no lacing behind. The nose is based in caramel and biscuit malt, lightly sweet, with a smoky, savory, alderwood overtone. Flavors are very much the same, lightly toasty and stocked with caramel malt, with a stout smoked element and notes of earthen hops. Medium bodied and balanced, the palate neither disappoints or impresses. Overall, it’s a sound rauchbier that I wold certainly never turn down, but the sweetness is a little overbearing.
