This is my first "Smoke Ale" and this really gives even the most roasted porters and stouts a run. At the widest part of the glass its impossible to see through just the way I like my beer. The alcohol is not masked in anyway and it is obvious right away that its a bit stronger than average. It really does smell and taste like something bbq’d or like someone said a "camp fire". Nicely done Rogue. blutt59 (2097), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Pours a hazy gold with a creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is of smoky pale & bready malt, light peat and campfire notes dominating. Light to medium-bodied and slightly grainy with a dry bitter finish. The flavor is of dry, smoky pale malt, a lightly phenolic note and a peaty, grassy-hopped finish. This one might be decent with certain foods, but as a stand-alone, it’s not that great. mikeben (344), Naperville, Illinois, USA

I don’t like hoppy bitter finishes and this sure had one. I felt it needed a stronger smoke component, I like smoked beers because they have a strong smoke bbq flavor. It was ok, the coloring was nice the scent fragrent, and it worked well when I used some to make Chili but I think Aecht is the best. BrewDad (2366), Olympia, Washington, USA

Aroma – Nice smoked malt and hops aroma.
Appearance – Amber in color, Thin light head and clear.
Flavor – This was a smokey ale. My first not made from a dark beer this was very good. The smokey flavor did not dominate which was good.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, Nice texture with a dry finish.
Overall – One of the better smoked beer I have had . The flavor was not so strong as to make you look for the campfire you drank. A very good rendition of a smoked beer.

Cloudy amber with a smoky nose that also has a lactic character. Tastes like a watered down Bamberg rauchbier, with plum flavours too. Average weight. An enjoyable smoked ale, but no Schlenkerla! renffisch (517), london, Greater London, England
