3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mgermani (932) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 1, 2008
Pours a dull orange with a short-lived head. Fresh lightly smoky flavour, jerky, teryaki. Taste is somewhat muted - fairly basic amber ale with just a hint of sweet smoke, like glazed smoked salmon or teryaki beef. Nice subtle smoked finish, nothing offensive here. Body is thin but quite carbonated - no complaints. This is a beer that really needs to be enjoyed withfood. It really makes me hungry. It’s a lot more subtle than many smoked ales I’ve had, and sweeter, which I like. Call me picky, but I the fact that it makes me crave salty meat detracts from the enjoyment of the beverage on its own. Not bad, though.

A pretty mild smoke character, sweetish smoke with a decent Marzen style flavor. Nice.

Bottle huge thansk to harrisoni. Aroma is smoked big time, roasty hints even chocolate. Taste is again a smokey beat the hops are evedant and add a small citrus note in the finish.

Red-brown colored with hazy appearance. Medium sized yellow head. Chocolaty, licoricy and caramelly, sweet aroma with rich hops, smoke also present, though not as Bamberg-styled as mentioned. Medium bodied. Flavor is more smoky with mild ham also present, high carbonated brew. Aftertaste is somehow watery with still smoke and bitter hops, still not too balanced brew. Fine aroma, not too good flavor.

i had this at FoBAB 2004, under the name ’smoak’. pours dark gold, slight head. slight whiff of smoke in nose, faint sweetness. the flavor was very mild and only slightly smokey. an ok, but not exciting brew. (this applies to the FoBAB 2004 ’smoak’ entry only).

This style is very interesting. I thought I’ve had it before, but forgot to rate it. It smells of bacon grease and pours amber-orange with a thin head. Taste is very smokey with a dry finish.

22 oz bomber purchased at Spirits. Pours a reddish/brown with a small quickly disipating bubbly off white head. Big smokey aroma, thin/medium bodied and a smokey flavor that finishes with a slight touch of aciditty. Average beer which is about what I expect from Rogue.

April 2007 - Nice amber color with smallish head and no lacing. Strong aroma of sweet smoke. Nice flavor of smoked bacon with a little sweet brown sugar. Nice level of smoke and sweetness without being overdone. Odd to say being a Rogue beer, but just a touch more hoppiness would have been nice.
