Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2006 Didn’t care much for the aroma, smelled a bit to "fishy" for me. But the taste is what important and the taste is good. The smoked caramel flavors enhances the beer that has mild fruit flavors. Proceed with caution nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 12, 2006 The aroma is smokey with a hint of fish, and a little bit of caramel. The appearance is yellowish/brownish/red with a small head. The flavor is salty, smokey, malty, and bitter. The palate is smooth. The aroma is strange and only smoke beer lovers are going to appreciate it. I am not crazy about this one but I can tell it’s well made, spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Dec 10, 2006 Aroma of malt and smoke.Pours copper with a medium tan head.A lot of smoke stands out in the flavor.Medium body with hops and smoke in the finish. hopheadjohn (5), Manasquan, New Jersey, USA does not count Dec 8, 2006 22oz. bomber. Pours a nice orangish-copper. Smell reminded me of when my little sister put my G.I. Joe in her EasyBake oven, ooofah. Didn’t taste much better. Don’t know if it was a bad bottle, or I’m just not fond of the style. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 8, 2006 22 oz bomber. Pours a cloudy orange copper color with a medium beige head. Aroma is of smoked malts and beef jerkey. Taste is liquid smoke in a bottle. Like drinking slim jim juice. Actually not too bad. Not your everyday beer, nevertheless drinkable. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Nov 30, 2006 22 oz bottle. Hazy amber. Aroma is smoke and malts. Taste is smoky and malty, the carbonation is soft which seems to pronounce the smoke a bit in the taste. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Nov 27, 2006 tastes like smokehouse barbeque. i suppose this is rogue’s version of the rauchbier. they do a fine job. it’s more malty than hoppy, but the hops do add a nice spicy flavor to the smokey brew. also, caramel on the initial taste, followed then by burnt esspresso beans. the smoke flavor is best compared to that of a campfire; burnt pine without the sparks flying up in the air. it’s drinkability increases with pizza in front of you. food can really bring out the flavor of this particular beer. the smoke flavor increases once it’s taken in. dry mouthfeel. it’s a meaty beer. it coats the tongue the same way a nice heavy cab sauv would. excellent! Theis (3617), Denmark Nov 23, 2006 Bottle at "American Tasting #2" Clowdy strawyellow - offwhite head. High smokey, Smoked salmon, light malty, Straw, dry.
