It had a strong malt flavor with a hint of acid. The hops blended in well and left a bit of an aftertaste. The smoke flavor was there but it was subtle. Lot’s of sediment was left in the bottom of the glass. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

Medium pour in a tulip glass
Poured a clear dark fiery orange with an average quickly diminishing off white rocky head.
Smelt strongly of smoked porcine product with a hint of grassy hops.
Taste was upfront heavy smoke with light sweet caramel maltiness followed by a strong bitter piney hop and a slowly fading continuation of the harsh burnt smokiness, with a light hint of fruity banana and light berry hops peeking through at the end on the lengthy finish. Mouthfeel was medium, creamy, lively carbonation and moderate astringincy.
Overall, a great bold and complex tasting Rauchbier. This tasted like the Chipotle Ale without the annoying spiciness that masked the finish. Now excuse while I go enjoy the rest of this with a bag of pork rinds. FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Very smoke and dark brown in color with a slightly orange head. Better for marinating a side of salmon on the grill than really for drinking while watching a Braves game... DrBeer (777), Danderyd Stockholm, Sweden

Gentle caramel sweetness and faintly phenolic smokiness in the nose, sweet and buttery toffee notes in the mouth with building woodsmoke and a suggestion of cheesiness. Lingering dry finish with woodsmoke mixing well with a resinous hop bitterness.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 29, 2006 A nice pour with a copper colored beer with a fluffy white head. The aroma kicks out strong from the bottle. It smells just like liquid smoke. The taste is very strong at first--you definitely have to adjust to the flavors. It has a tangy charcoal flavor that hits you in the back of your mouth right away. After I got used to the flavor, I really enjoyed the smokiness of the beer.
