rauchbier (2993), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Aug 22, 2006 Bottle, from Sainsburys. Hazy orange bronze, thin off white head and good condition. Gentle caramel sweetness and faintly phenolic smokiness in the nose, sweet and buttery toffee notes in the mouth with building woodsmoke and a suggestion of cheesiness. Lingering dry finish with woodsmoke mixing well with a resinous hop bitterness.
moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Jul 29, 2006 A nice pour with a copper colored beer with a fluffy white head. The aroma kicks out strong from the bottle. It smells just like liquid smoke. The taste is very strong at first--you definitely have to adjust to the flavors. It has a tangy charcoal flavor that hits you in the back of your mouth right away. After I got used to the flavor, I really enjoyed the smokiness of the beer. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 26, 2006 Did not like the first sip at all, but the flavor grew on me. Very rich flavor and texture. The only other smoked beer I have tried is the Stone Smoked porter, and I liked it quite a bit more because the smoke seemed to be better integrated into the flavor. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Jul 20, 2006 Bottle.Copper-orange color with good thin beige head that dissapates after a short time. Great smokey malt with smoked salmon nose and ends with malty caramelness. Flavor is similar with hickory charcoal notes that end in a nice iced-bourbon flavor. Hops are apparent and blend well with the malt. Very nice. smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Jul 17, 2006 Draft - nice, smoky malt aroma ... imagine that. Deep orange/copper body with a thickish beige head of about two fingers depth. Very nice, smokey first swallow. However, it quickly faded and became a bit sweet. The smoke took a bit of a back seat. Still a nice beer overall, but given a choice I would stick with a Schlenkerla. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2006 smells like dads old car - cig leather. a four course meal with mashed potatoes, grain alcohol, cheese, and mac. Orange amber with head coating. flavor is like aroma. delicious. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 7, 2006 Amber-orangeish color, with a frothy beige head, with a mild smoked salmon nose, with a beechwood campfire accent, caramelized malt, toffeeish note, and a hint of smoked mussels in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a roasted smoky character, caramelized malt, hint of oiliness, smoked bacon accent, leading towards a mild smokey finish. Dhrjericho (66), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 4, 2006 I’d like to start out by saying i’m not a big fan of smoke ales. Poured an orange color. Aroma was mainly a smoky bacon and fish combo. The flavor was thin and smoky. I didn’t enjoy this very much (got the bottle for a friend).
