bozoNZ (481), Christchurch, New Zealand Aug 3, 2009 Rich Amber almost bronze. Smells smokey - surprisingly! Sort of bonfire smoke, not a coal fire, nor your usual open fire. The palate is built around a rich malt base - nice a fat with some light fruit charachters. Then the smoke kicks in. Second swallow, third swallow like what you get from the hops in a big rich IPA. Here it’s the smoke. Maybe it’s that I did smoke when young but this has some funk and I love it. pilsnerrogge (1769), Finspång, Sweden Aug 2, 2009 Bottled: Pours hazy dark orange with a small head. Sour smoke and toffee on the nose. Flavour is somewhat sweet and has notes of caramel and smoke.....but where is the "intense hop finish" the label promised?? ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 2, 2009 Hazy amber pour. Thin off white head and sticky lace. Roast and peat on the nose. Toffee, caramel, sausage, and light smoke larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Jul 30, 2009 Bottled from Systembolaget
Hazy dark copper. Tan, small head.
Leather, stable, and smoke in both aroma and flavour.
A bit thin and slightly stale. Joakgust (320), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 24, 2009 Hazy amber orange colored beer with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is roasty malty with notes of smoked fish and roasted corn. Flavor is smoked malty with notes of hickory beef and tar. Very balanced and satisfying. stryk (30), Farsta, Sweden Jul 24, 2009 Alright!

ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 21, 2009 Appearance: Pours a hazed, mahogany-hued body with a thin, smallish, off-white head.
Smell: Aroma of sweetish, toasty malts layered with smoked wood, chipped beef jerky, a distant fruitiness, and spicy, steely hops.
Taste: Toasted maltiness instilled with smokiness and some slight caramel sweetness. Sure, there’s plenty of smoke to be had in Smoke Ale, but it won’t bowl you over like the Schlenkerla line-up. Faintly fruity. Moderate hop bitterness with some spicy Saaz qualities. Final rise of malt sweetness that drops back down for the dry, smoky, bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s enjoyable. A pleasant, well-balanced beer with a nice level of everyday smoke character. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Jul 11, 2009 Updated: Jul 26, 2009Draught at McGlaughlin’s in Kyoto.
Light amber color. Rich caramel and smoke aroma. Pretty good smoked flavor, with decent caramel and bitterness. Ale fruitiness doesn’t seem to really go with the smoke, though. Slightly spicy, like cinnamon, too. Interesting, different, and nice enough.
