Aroma is smokey and beefy, similar to the cold winter air smell. Flavor had just enough smoked taste so that it wasn’t overbearing. Beefy with cinamon and ginger. Body was nice and malty. Reddish-brown hue with a spotty off-white head. Faint smoke notes, definitely a let down after #1. Biscuit like malt nose. Medium bodied with a light roast malt. Good dose of hops in the finish. Good bitter base beer. Smoke nose and flavor mild at best. KAggie97 (2425), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Pours a medium amber with a nice head and good lace. Aroma is obviously lots of smoke, with hints of wood, bbq, and some smoked meats. Flavor is also smoky but has a slight medicinal note which I find in all smoked beers except spezial and schlenkerla. SOme nuttyness and roasted dark malts throughout with a light sweetness and a light bitterness in the end. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 9, 2005 Nice translucent amber in color with a booming, fluffy tan head in my .5 L boot glass. Aroma produces the customary wafts - bark, goat jerky, hickory, maple syrup oak vats, caramel and butterscotch. A nice, modest smoke profile rolls out the flavor, complimented by ashen, flame licked yellow peppers, rawhide, caramel and a steel twang on the backend. Chicory-roasted dried beef furthers the artistic interpretation. Medium bodied and fairly succinctly balanced, yet carbonation is scaled back perhaps too much. Finishes with beef hide and cedar wood. An enjoyable easy drinker.
