Aroma of a barbeque with a faint caramelly maltiness. Body is med lite. Flavor is BBQesque with some background hoppy grassiness. I like the smoothness of the smoke flavors. Really adds a great character and is not nearly as overpowering as some rauchbiers. xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Tap. Pours a cloudy amber with a small head. The ring never quite goes away. I love smoked brews, but this is the first smoked ’ale’ I’ve had. Honestly, it smelled like nutty smoke, and tasted like beef jerky. :) Very smokey taste, I loved it. Not too thick of a mouthfeel which was nice for a smoked ale. Looking forward to next time I have it. beerandrugby (210), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

A very smoky aroma which smelled like smoked almonds was prevalent. Initial round malt flavor with some hints of honey...quickly becomming very, very smokey! reminds me of smoked salmon flavor, really nice! The palate is a little weak but the flavor is so nice and unique I didn’t mind. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA

It looks and smells like a smoke, so I will only comment on the things in this beer that differ from the usual smoke beers. The smoke is not overwhelming. It tastes like smoked salmon, BBQ, and some citrus. This is one of the better smokes that I have had. Overall, the smoke is very light on the front end and medium on the back end. Odd. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2005 Lots of smoke and citrus hop in the aroma. Body is deep brown with a decent tan head and good lacing. Flavors were fairly intense with smoke at the begining and strong hops at the end. I immediately craved cheese with this brew.
