Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Feb 26, 2005 Bottle. It looks and smells like a smoke, so I will only comment on the things in this beer that differ from the usual smoke beers. The smoke is not overwhelming. It tastes like smoked salmon, BBQ, and some citrus. This is one of the better smokes that I have had. Overall, the smoke is very light on the front end and medium on the back end. Odd. Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Feb 19, 2005 Lots of smoke and citrus hop in the aroma. Body is deep brown with a decent tan head and good lacing. Flavors were fairly intense with smoke at the begining and strong hops at the end. I immediately craved cheese with this brew. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Feb 17, 2005 22 oz bottle. Aroma is curious. There are citrusy orange piney hop tones evenly balanced with smokey bacon aroma. Neither aroma dominates and thus are both battling for supremacy. Copper/amber color that’s moderately hazy with a minute small light yellowish head. Well I must say I am rather pleasantly suprised by this beer. The start has citrus hop flavors which are accented but not overpowered by the hickory smoke in the middle. A creamy caramel texture comes through at the very end after the raosted smke flavor has subsited. Pass the Gouda!! I enjoy this Rauch more than teh Aecht that I had before. This seems to have more balance and beer characteristics. I’m sure this is not classically rauch, but it is enjoyable nonetheless. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 10, 2005 Coppery with thinner head. Smells of wet tobacco. Taste of cumin and coffee dregs (but this is not a bad thing for me). Mouthfeel is mellow, bursting into half-champagne carbonation before the swallow. Not bad, but not for me. jus10cider82 (67), Wichita, Kansas, USA Feb 3, 2005 (Bob Marley in the background-pint 6 bottle) pours hazy burnt orange w/ very little head(may have lost on the opening) smells of smoke and not much else..feels great in the mouth..a bit strong/smokey at the top of the glass but quickly balances out..i hope no one pours it out right away because it brings in malt and a meaty taste later..pretty damn good..let’s get together and feel alright..lol piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Jan 20, 2005 Dull orange in colour with a small off white head. Faint smoke aroma, along with notes of sweet malt. The dominant flavor is obviously the smoke, but it’s a bit more mellow than other smoked beers that I’ve tried. The malty munich flavor that I tend to associate with Rogue beers isn’t quite as dominant either. This beer gains points for being balanced, but I would have liked a bit more "umph". MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jan 17, 2005 cloudy pale copper color, slightly brownish. small tan head. light smoky and peaty nose. smoky dryish flavor with light hop finish jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jan 16, 2005 Hazy, light brown color with a small off white head. Mild smoky aroma with a bit of bacon and sweet malt. Flavor of smoke, roasted malts and a mildly bitter, dry finish.
