Crisp and smooth. Smokey malt flavor. Citrus hops linger in the background. Overally pretty decent. Bought this 22oz bottle at Liquor Barn in Nashville. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Poured deep amber/orange color with a slight haziness. Persistant thin white head with minimal lacing. A moderate amount of beechwood smoke immediately fills the nose; prominent, but not overpowering. Not nearly as much smoke as a couple of the German Rauchbiers I’ve had in the past. Flavors of smoked jerky and red cedar are noted, with a quite pleasant slick, smooth mouthfeel. Finishes with somewhat of an IPA hop character as the smoke taste gradually fades. I think I would have enjoyed this more if some darker malts were incorporated. Good stuff though and worth a try. 123456green (46), houston, Texas, USA

Aroma was bacon(i like mine for breakfeast not in my beer) salmon, and a touch of salt. Taste rich and untamed. Finsh is much the same bacon etc., you know the rest. Not my cup of tea. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England

The trouble is, theres not much else, pretty much no complexity or anything else going on. Still tastes OK though, just lacks depth of flavour. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2004 Nice orange amber hue. Big fizzy, rocky beige head. Smokey bacon nose. Starts with sweet chewy malts, smoke arrives immediately. Charred, smokey wood notes, fairly thin in body, with a lingering smokey bacon flavor, with hints of hops and bitterness, and a touch of alcohol. A nice rendition, very drinkable. A west coast rauchbier.
